Hi guys
Thought you might like to read this.
The Sydney Roosters are set to shore up the future of Queensland Origin star Chris Flannery after several English clubs sounded him out.
Flannery's agent Jim Banaghan said that at least three Super League clubs have indicated an interest in his client and that has forced the Roosters' hand, admitting they want to re-sign Flannery.
"I was over in England following the Tri-Nations tour, where I was talking to the Super League clubs about a number of matters," Banaghan told the Daily Telegraph.
"As soon as they heard a player of Chris's calibre was coming off-contract there was immense interest," he said. "They're looking for younger players these days who can play key positions, and obviously Chris well and truly fits that bill."
Roosters chief executive Brian Canavan wants Flannery secured until the end of 2008.
"Overseas interest in Chris is in the background and we intend to keep it in the background," Canavan said. "We've already opened discussions regarding Chris and we'll be stepping them up over the next few weeks."
Michael Crocker, currently contracted until the end of 2006, is also keen to sign an extension.
"At this stage the indication is that both boys want to stay at the Roosters, from their manager and also themselves," Canavan said.
