NRL star's guilty plea over crash

NRL footballer Chris Flannery was already suspended from driving when, with nine glasses of wine under his belt, he got behind the wheel of his car and collided with another vehicle and then took off without exchanging details.
The Roosters rugby league forward yesterday pleaded guilty at Waverley Local Court to a charge of mid-range drink-driving.
He had a blood-alcohol count of .120 after the incident at Double Bay on December 4. Despite ``aggravating factors'' of the collision and the suspension of his licence on October 6 for failing to pay a fine, 24-year-old Flannery was disqualified from driving for only nine months. Magistrate Jayeann Carney noted Flannery, of Kensington, was ``an outstanding athlete'' and imposed a fine of $700 plus court costs of $63. The maximum penalty for mid-range drink-driving is a $2200 fine or nine months jail.

What should being "an outstanding athlete" have anything to do with it?

Not sure that's a smart thing for her to be saying in her position.

Slap on the wrist, the bitch of a beak has obviously had no-one in her family or circle of friends die as a result of a drink driver.

I wonder what an overweight plumber that smokes would have got for the same offence in her court, odds on it wouldnt have been the same.

Calling Chris Flannery an outstanding athelete is not a smart thing full-stop

You're quite obviously geniused or have major learning disabilities. I'd seriously LOVE to see one of your Kiwi players try and play a game with an absolute SMASHED TESTICLE, let alone a grand final, AND ALMOST steal the honours .... gee he played superbly in the 2004 GF ... no wonder their is a huge price on his head over in England atm.

But, according to JJ, Flannery is pretty pathetic huh ?

he should be thrown in the slammer for about 6 months and fined 10K

its a joke

the NSW had been saying over the last 12 months that they would be cracking down on unlicensed drivers and that maximums would be enforced...

he has committed 4 offences and got off scott free......... 700 dollars is chicken feed for that merkin. what if he had killed someone?

Didn't say he was pathetic... the smashed testicle suggests he's tough, but says nothing about his atheletic ability.

Can you read???

Flannery's a very good player, no question. Anyone playing first grade league is a very good athelete - depends on what you'd call outstanding. The main problem I have with Flannery, is that the Roosters can't seem to decide what his best position is, and I think being a "utility" is not the best option, he needs a position that's his own (maybe Ricketson should get on with retiring?)

BTW Buck Shelford played a test for the All Blacks against France with a similar issue (except it happened in the game)
