CHRIS WALKER has been dumped from the Queensland State of Origin rugby league squad after being charged with assaulting police in Brisbane early today.


Walker - arrested after Brisbane incident.

Police used capsicum spray when they arrested the Sydney Roosters winger following an altercation at 4.15am in inner-city Fortitude Valley.

Walker, 24, was charged with assaulting police, obstructing police and being a public nuisance.

He was bailed to appear before the Brisbane Magistrate's Court on May 18.

Walker was immediately expelled from the Maroons Origin squad, which had been holding a training camp in the buildup to the first match in the three-match series with NSW on May 26.

Queensland Rugby League general manager Ross Livermore today said Walker had broken curfew and will not be considered for the opening Origin match.

"The police are investigating it and they have charged Chris Walker and he is no longer a member of the Queensland squad," said Livermore.

"We can't condone that kind of behaviour and he won't be considered for the first Origin game."

A former Brisbane Broncos premiership three-quarter, Walker joined the Roosters after a short-lived and controversial stint with South Sydney last year.

Renowned for his pace and fine support play, Walker was recalled to the Maroons' Origin squad this year after playing six matches for Queensland in 2001 and 2002.

No chance of gaol, unless the assault was by spitting, then it's virtually a given. Big fine and maybe a good behaviour bond, maybe. It's been coming. If any of you think he's a smart arse when sober, then I can assure you that he is a complete ahole when full of grog. A real big mouth - with nothing to back it up.

I think it's time the NRL stopped sitting on their hands and came out and punished someone for these acts of stupidity.

So the Rooters have fined him 10% of his contract. So what?

We're talking about an incident less than a week after we see the "conclusion" of the Bulldogs investigation. The game has suffered enough damage this year due to the acts of these overpaid egomaniacs.
I say the NRL should call a summit with ALL players from ALL grades of ALL clubs and state, in no uncertain terms, that ANYONE guilty of such offences in the future will have their contracts terminated immediately, and barred from participating in the NRL for life.

Simple.

knowing qld coppers like I do & knowing QLDers like I do, I would not be surprised if he was victimised for being "chris walker"
QLD'ers don't like confident people. They don't like people with a bit of flair or lair. They don't like people who look different. They don't like people who think different.
QLD is another time & another place.
People like Walker or Mundine or not looked upon with bemused interest, but are instead hated with passion.
Hatred so intense, it is scary.
To think that the cops are different then the rest of the QLD "majority" of the population, is ridiculous.
I know the gold coast very well & brisbane quite well & don't need to do any research on QLD police to have an opinion on their integrity & honesty.
If just 4 cops that I know personally were on duty & they saw Walker & 20 other guys fighting, they would have singled out Walker for response.
BTW, Walker was past curfew because he was locked up, wasn't he?

Nope -- he was back at the motel at the appointed time, and then snuck out after curfew. Was busted by the cops a couple of hours AFTER he was supposed to be tucked up in bed.

Yeah, well thats the story, but thats not what I've heard.
