Henderson Gill certainly impressive in that game. Bobbed up everywhere !

Also strange to see a field goal taken by the Poms ....... When four points behind ... to make it 18 - 15 to the Roos. Of course if they'd scored next, not the Aussies - it would have been a masterstroke !

fantastic try from oldham in that game (yes on utube)

physically, the two teams looked roughly at the same level. pit australia against oldham today and it would be a different story

What about the penalty try given to Australia!! dear oh dear

Still remember getting up at 3am in the morning to watch the games on this tour with my Dad.

Great memories and a pity in this modern age we have lost the Kangaroo tours which so many players could aspire to.

ive a book call 'kangaroos, kiwis & roughyeds' which documents all the tour games we played against each other..we've a decent record against australia..winning 4 or 5 games from memory,i'll check the book when i get home from work.....

and yeah it would be a different story now...just shows how far the once mighty oldham have fallen :-(

Yes the penalty try was a bit of an injustice - and possibly took some of the wind out of the GB sails.

Great scenes of the crowd urging their boys on.

Re the Roos v Oldham.

I'd say the GB team would certainly whitewash any of their 'traditional' rivals from days past. All those country comps have pretty much dropped in standard.

Perhaps games against the Qld Rangers and/or Residents would be more suitable these days rather than playing NQ, Toowoomba etc.

Even though the players were professional at the time, today's level of professionalism, mainly from sport science, means that the players from the big/rich clubs and by extension national players are heads and shoulders above the rest. That's the difference between Oldham/country clubs and the national teams. Back in the day, the difference was much less.

I still maintain that professionalism and sport science has killed the club tour and probably slowed down the development of the rugbys on a world wide scale.

I didn't realise you lived in New York 'spud. It's a flat sunshine no matter what the estate agent (or is that realtor?) told you. You must have a really big paper round. ;-)
