Club Asset-Dr Malouf

There is a good article in this weeks RLW, if anyone could scan it here for those who havent got it as I'm not able to scan it at the moment.

It is about our Dr, Peter Malouf who has been with the club since our clubs inception. He is retiring at the end of the year and in my opinion, is a bigger loss to our club than Both Stevo and Peach who are also retiring.

Those who know me and know my admiration for both Jason and David with understand how big a wrap that is from me for "Doc" and how much admiration I have for him, and how much I believe Doc, and people like him mean to our club and how essential it is that people like this are kept within our club, and new clubmen that come along are nurtured, respected, and allowed to contribute to the gutsy tradition that is our mighty Club, the BLUE BLACK AND WHITE from the shire. One passage from the article....:-

"There's bravery, Cliff Watson played with 4 busted ribs in that 73 grand final...people say he had a fairly quiet game that day, there wasn't much he could do about it" And thuggery " sludges jaw ( when he as hit by mark bugden in 1985) was one of the worst injuires I've seen. At one stage I looked at his face and there were three rows of teeth on the bottom"

And tragedy, underlined the day Eric Archer knocked on the back door of his Gymea bay home one Sunday morning, game day : " He as supposed to be playing that day, but he had tears in his eyes, and his little boy Scott in his hands-would have been 18 months old at the time. He had haemorrages all over him, and Eric said ' Doc, there's something wrong with my little boy'. I looked at him and I knew he had something very serious. He had leukaemia and he died four or five years after that"

Our club is built on spirit and toughness and of being the underdogs, many of the forummers here are so passionate and its fantastic to see so many younger people on here taking time to talk about the club we all love and growing up being sharks fans. I encourage you all to read these kinds of things, get to know our clubs history, get to know the personalities that forged our past and then let stories like those above from Doc Malouf help us all forge a future based on the wonderful, gutsy , have go and stuff the detractors attitude that the players, staff, and supporters have shown in the past.

Great bloke, It won't be the same with out him. I used to see all the players going into see him when I lived at Sylvania, his surgery was at the Shops on Box rd.
I hope he does a lap with Stevo and Peach.

I agree that the Doc should be given a worthy public farewell. A great club stalwart. Maybe he should write a book, he'd have enough stories to tell.

I hope he gets a lap of honour after the Souths game, this guy is such a legend of the club he's almost the 6th Immortal.

Here here...

I remember after a game when Nathan Long was being interviewed (yeah, remember when Longy used to get MOM awards! LOL), and the doc hadn't been well. He was home watching on the box, and Longy was saying hello to him over the camera, saying how it wasn't the same on game day without him there.

Just bought a copy of RLW so I could read the article...

Magic stuff. Never knew the Doc liked a punt! He sounds like he's up there with Junior Waugh and Sully!

How sad is that passage where he talks about Eric Archer with his little fella, Scott? What does it say about the Doc, when a big tough 1st grader knocks on his door with a very sick little kid, instead of going straight to the hospital? The players must think of him like a father, Archer wouldn't have thought of going anywhere but the Doc's place I reckon...

If you haven't read it yet, get yourself a copy.
