How is this progressing all round the country ?

I went to the Christchurch Grand Final today, with the Linwood Keas taking on the Papanui Tigers

Was a pretty good match, Linwood went out to 10-0 early on in the match and looked like running away with it. Papanui then came back and scored a nice 50m try, but Linwood scored again twice before the break to lead 20-4 at HT. 2nd half was more of the same, Linwood sealed the match with 2 more tries to lead 30-4 with about 20mins left, before Papanui came home with a wet sail, but to no avail, with the game finishing with Linwood taking the Premiership 30-22

2nd Rower Chris Bamford was the star for Linwood, making a lot of strong runs and setting up 2-3 tries. The halfback for Papanui, Duane Wineti was also very good, strong running and kicking game

In Wellington, North City Vikings defeated Wainuiomata Lions 24-22 in the Premier grade. And the Kapiti Kingfishers beaten the University Hunters 12-10 in the senior reserves. A nice day albeit cold wet and hailstorms in our nations capital for some superb Rugby League.

Welly G-Finals, were great!
North City played well against Wainui this year Norths finaly winning by only 2 points so a close game between the two powerhouses, however very interesting to note that in the Reserve Grade Kapiti beat University in a good hard game, where for years the Hutt Valley has been the centre of the WRL Universe, the other areas of Welly have over the last 4 years caught up. With the University premier team playing there way into the semis plus there reserve grade getting to the finals, it broke a 20 year hoodoo from the central city with a team making the semis. Add to that only one team from the Hutt in the Semis this year, the game is getting stronger right across the board, all teams this year showed that on a given day any side in this comp can win against another. Was a good season for the WRL as a whole. Now roll on the Rep Season!
