Cole Clarke v Maton

Ok, so this therad is about instruments rather than those that play 'em. But this is closer to anything else I can find here!

I'm in the market for my first ever decent accoustic. I've been playing strats for years, so a large heavy thing with strings madeout of pipe isn't my go.

I've played the EC325, and loved the sound. Then, in another store, I played the ECW 80,and loved it more. The Maton sound is just special.

However, I have alsoplayed the Cole Clarke Fat Lady 2, and I swear it's an easier guitar to play.

Anyone got any opinions?

I have a Fat Lady 1, and for pretty much a grand, it is a very good acoustic instrument. After my Jazzmaster gets delivered, the next purchase will be some type of Taylor, though.

I pretty much got the Cole Clark on the neck, I liked it better than similar priced Matons, and every second person has a MAton.

Neither.
Go out and find an Art & Lutherie Spruce. Under $700 and a better guitar than anything Maton or Cole Clark churn out.

I'd go with the maton personally. Although i am a bass player, there is something mystical about the maton i love. At the moment i am just about to spend the dough on a ampeg svt pro 4 amp with a mesa 4 x 10 and mesa 1 x 15. After my bank account has recovered from that a maton ms 500 is on the cards. I haven't played the cole, but every maton i have played has sounded awesome, and would be my very bias choice. let us know which way you go..

Sounds like a spruce top, and a laminated body. Correct?

Thought about a Taylor, but like the idea of finally playing an Aussie instrument with Queensland Maple or Queensland walnut.
