Thanks for your honesty. Its really appreciated.

Oh, how the hell would you know? lol

Fine,

"To be fair"

happy?

Why was he never going to the Knights?? Knights were offering more money per year and an extra year = somewhere in the vicinity of a million dollars worse off I'd reckon....

He was never going because as has been pointed out already, money isn't everything. Matt is a country boy, a NQ legend and the co-captain of the club, he is as Cowboys as they come. It just wouldn't have happened, there are some players you just know will always stay at the club they're at despite interest from other clubs. Cam Smith is another one. I certainly don't blame him for testing his value, he deserves all the money he can get and as i said from the beginning in the Rumoured Signings thread, i wouldn't have begrudged him for taking the Knights offer, but he was just never going to.

He'll play out his career at the Cows or as long as his body will let him, and then he'll have a job within the club if he wants one. Like it should be.

They will regret it in a couple of years, could be a bit more ruthless. Already made a poor decision in letting Ponga go keep to old boys with 1 or 2 years left max.

We didn't "let Ponga go", the Knights threw absolutely absurd money at a 2 game rookie. No smartly run club would entertain the idea of matching that offer. The Knights are desperate and took a gamble on potential. Good luck to them, hope it works out for them. Also, his father is a deadset asshat.

Mate don't bring Smith into your argument.

He was off to the Coast until someone found some some blank contracts lying on Waldron's floor.

No he wasn't, nor was he ever going to the Broncos when they went after him a while back.

Ok.

Thanks Cam.

If Smith was staying and loyal blah blah blah like you adamantly state - what was the need for 3 contracts and systemic cheating of the cap?

For shits and giggles?

"Oh that means nothing. We Qlders have honour and loyaltly blah blah blah"

Off the moonshine mate.

Its one of the things I find hilarous about the hypocrisy of Qlders. You all get your panties in a twist about DCE and how he was not honourable. Then not bat an eyelid about Smith and Co signing multiple contracts or Greg Inglis backing out of a deal with Brisbane.

Are you somehow suggesting that Cameron Smith, a player, somehow orchestrated the darkest day in Australian sport (at the time, at least)? What has any of that got to do with the type of player who would/wouldn't be a 1 club player?

This has nothing to do with QLD v NSW or even loyalty to a club. Im simply commenting on a player who (predictably) stuck with the club he's spent his whole career at and having a chuckle at the expense of a gullible few who thought he was seriously a chance of leaving.

Anyway....

You said Cameron Smith was never leaving the Storm, correct?

So answer the question as to why the need to sign 3 different contracts for all the extra money if he was never leaving and he was so hopelessly committed to Melbourne.

If he was never going to leave and was all about loyalty, he would have been presented a fair contract and signed the deal to feel warm and fuzzy with Bellamy.

You brought Smith into the equation.

But, but, but......

Anyway, sorry for hijacking the thread folks.

DWZ PUTS DOWN ROOTS IN PENRITH

PENRITH will announce as early as Monday gun winger Dallin Watene-Zelezniak has signed a new three-year deal.

Happy to sign a string of one-year deals in the past, Watene-Zelezniak said he was more than happy to commit to the Panthers on a multi-year deal because of the stability and fact he was married and ready to start a family.

“I’ve been here since I was 12, the club have been awesome, and I love it around here,’’ DWZ told us.

To paraphrase Homer Simpson, you’re living in a world of make believe, with flowers and bells and leprechauns and magic frogs with funny little hats.....

Here it is in simple terms - Player has 1 year left on contract at current club. Says ideally he would like to stay beyond that with his current club but has to do what is best for his family's future. And so instructs his manager to field offers from rival clubs. One such club puts forward a 3 year deal worth somewhere in the vicinity of 800K per year. His incumbent club were only offering a 2 year deal at a lower per year return than the rival club.

During negotiations, Player suffers season ending ACL injury. Rival club pulls the 3 year offer off the table. Player then signs 2 year deal with incumbent club, revised with option for the 2nd year in clubs favour I believe. Conservatively speaking, he is potentially $800,000-1,00,000 worse off the way it has transpired...

But yeah - QLD boy, loves the club and was never going anywhere else and all that... the ACL injury and offer from the rival club being pulled was nothing but semantics....

Even if Scott is not as explosive post injury his leadership will not change and the team is significantly weaker without it.

As for Ponga, as has been said they threw a huge price for like 2 games.
It's a gamble they needed to take but we did not.

Scott probably would have gone to newy if he didn't get busted and their offer was still on the table.

But he is and the offer isn't. Who gives a shit really. Cowboys fans are happy he is staying, great player and a great guy. He epitomises the whole NQ club.

Newcastle can go throw bullshit money around elsewhere.

??? Can f wits just be loyal to the correct country...

Is that supposed to be a shot at Tepai???

The bloke who played NSW under 16s and 18s....Australian schoolboy rugby, Australian schoolboys rugby sevens, the junior Kangaroos and the Prime Ministers XIII?

Obviously the troll is talking shit when he reckons he'll even be close to Origin this season, but he's definitely representing the right country....
