whilst scott has resigned with the the cows, has anyone noticed the irony? mclean signed for the cows when he could have been a perfect (size age and ability wise) target for the knights....of course the mckinnon situation would have never allowed it, but this was never brought up.

I think you answered your own question there.

Great news. He seems happy to remain a winger. Previously I think he was holding out for a fullback spot and fullback money. But now hes just happy to play for a club he loves.

I'm sure most of us thought as much when it was rumoured he was on the market. It's not so much that the Knights would not have been interested (you'd have to be seeing how Maclean is coming on now) but Maclean himself would never have seen himself as part of the Knights due to the McKinnon situation even if they chased him hard.

You got to admit still would have racked up some serious hits ;)

I doubt McLean's manager would have even taken a lunch meeting with the knights to bump up his clients asking price
And understandably so, if I were McLean you couldn't pay me enough money to play footy in that city given the history
Unfortunate circumstances for the knights given he'd have been a perfect target for them

Tend to agree with you but maybe for different reasons. I agree Jordan would never consider Newcastle as a destination post the Mackinnon incident but not because of any real ill will from that club. The poor kid made an agressive tackle that went horribly wrong and changed the lives of both men forever. They will both carry this legacy in different ways for the rest of their lives and there is nothing they can do to change that.

It was highly emotive at the time but I think most Newcastle people agree there was no ill will involved and it was a tragic accident. That is, Jordan Maclean should be wished to get on with things and move forward. I think the real vitriol was saved for the way Cam Smith conducted himself at the time. Both he and the people of Newcastle will probably find it hard to forgive and forget regardless of the water under the bridge since.

But Nick given he is from Young how did your mob let the kid go? I think he would have been a perfect keeper for u 5 years ago before you signed all those other guys outside your capture.......or maybe u never found him in the first place?

Yeah I wasn't suggesting any ill will by the knights, just I don't see McLean wanting to go there at all and having that in his face all day every day. It's just not something I think any reasonable person would want to do

Re the second part
It's a big catchment area we are trying to manage, we've got a lot of kids and unfortunately there just isn't a spot for them all in our system given the current funding model. We do a pretty good job but everyone misses a few.

Hang on, what? What are you referring to when you mention the way "Cam Smith conducted himself at the time"?

Do you mean the hatchet job Channel 9 did on him to make him look like some sort of evil bastard that was quickly proven to be nothing but typical journalistic shit?

Nope. The ACA stuff was a disgrace. But commenting audibly "if he doesn't duck his head that doesn't happen" when a bloke is on the ground seriously injured is about as grubby as it gets behaviour wise.

f**k the poor bugger on the ground terrified, all I care about is where the penalty goes. That conduct.

Do you honestly think Smith understood the gravity of the injury? Players go down every set of six almost, unfortunately on this occasion it was something horrific, but for anyone at the time it just seemed pretty innocuous. If Smith understood the severity, there's no way he'd be talking to the referee - you can guarantee pretty much every other captain in the game would have been up in the ref's face saying similar things (if not worse) if they were in Smith's shoes.

Suffice to say we agree to disagree. He didnt understand the gravity because he never bothered to check. He just shot from the lip.

Obviously if he knew the severity he would not have carried on like a dick but the point is he should have checked first. Like it or not he is tarnished by this granted he has done a lot of good elsewhere.

Smith was 100% correct tho. If McKinnon doesn't duck then that doesn't happen. Like Paullyboy said, every captain would have said the same or something very similar
