Looks like this one slipped through. Dean Whare re-signs with the Panthers on a 5 year deal.

People love to bag Gould out and his 5 year plan. But the recruitment and retention at Penrith is incredible. The lower grades at Panthers have consistently been successful and we all know that its impossible to guarantee a premiership. Theres nothing more he could do.

Players locked up to 2020 and beyond:
Matt Moylan
Bryce Cartwright
Leilan Latu
Trent Merrin
James Tamou
Dean Whare
Dallin Watene-Zelezniak

2019:
Waqa Blake
Tim Browne
Reegan Campbell-Gillard
Jed Cartwright
Nathan Cleary
James Fisher Harris
Moses Leota
Sam Mckendry
Tyrone Peachey
Isaah Yeo

That's 17 players who are contracted for a minimum of the next 2 and a half years. Sitaleki Akauolo is the only top 25 player not contracted for next year. The rest are reserve grade contracts and we will almost certainly keep the ones we want.

Sadly we havent been a force in the NRL yet. But it's not really Goulds fault. He made a few crazy signings but has still managed to keep nearly all the important players.

It was evident within seconds that McKinnon was seriously injured. Smith had to have been aware. He was trying to defend his player but went too far, agreed that a lot of captains would have reacted in a similar way but you'd like to think the long term Melbourne, Queensland and Australian captain would've conducted himself better.

The way ACA shamefully exploited the whole situation was much worse than anything Smith or McLean did though.

Smith is a piece of shit and carried on like a piece of shit.

From chicken wings and grapples to signing 3 contracts at once, everything about the guy is disgraceful.

Don't know what players could be thinking . . . why would they make Smith the President of the RLPA

The fact Knights fans are so anti-Smith just shows that society just need a bad guy to blame for everything.

He isn't the villain you desperately want him to be.

He probably isn't. But his behaviour on that occasion was poor. Would he do it again if the same thing happened? I reckon no. But he made a bad error of judgement and given the circumstances it will not be forgotten.

But go ahead and defend that behaviour if you think it is fine.

Because he is a ruthless prick who will do a good job around negotiating more money for the players overall.

The way he conducted himself with the ref in the Mackinnon incident demonstrates this.

Or maybe because supporters who haven't spent a lot of time in the dressing sheds/training paddock/socializing with players have no f**king idea of the different world they operate in or how the think. I've been fortunate enough to learn their peculiarities . . . I can tell you 99% would consider anyone dwelling on The McKinnon Incident a f**kwit

Good point. Lets just pretend it never happened. Shame there is 1 bloke who will never get the chance to forget it champ......not dwelling but not forgetting either.

If Smith had his time again would he modify his behaviour? If the answer is yes then it is reasonable to assume he acted poorly. If it is no it says a lot about the blokes character.

Win at all costs is good but you need to draw the line somewhere. Smith didn't know where to draw it that night. Anyway, happy not to "dwell" on it any further.
