The point is he was poached as a player who was certainly already a quality player. He played Test footy in 2009 FFS. Which is not a problem, you simply don't get an elite prop like JWH or Klemmer unless you invest a shitload of cash in them as a junior. But don't pretend he was just another NYC schmuck who was picked up for peanuts.
The Roosters "buy" more players than most clubs. l don't see that as a criticism like some seem to, it's a good approach. Especially when your own catchment is relatively small....it becomes a necessity. What I don't understand is why some Roosters fans get so offended by the implication that they do buy a lot of players....who cares?
I'd be interested to see if this is true. We certainly haven't gone on anything you could call a signing spree at first grade level in recent years.
The most notable was the 2013 pre-season where we picked up Jennings, Maloney, and SBW.
The senior core of our team - Pearce, Friend, JWH, Cordner, Aubusson, Guerra, (and SKD) all made their FG debut with the club, as far back as 2007 for some of them. Plus blokes like RTS who are now elsewhere.
Aside from them, most of our big names have been on the outer for various reasons at their previous club (Jennings, Maloney, Keary) or completely unsigned (Carney, Ferguson).
Tedesco is the biggest "poach" I can think of since Mason and O'Meley way back in 2008.
Why do Roosters fans get offended? Because every club in the NRL has poached as many, if not more, big names as us, and thrown stupid money at juniors, yet we're the ones who get bagged for it.
Roosters invest as much into junior reps and NYC as any other club and a lot more than some, I'd hazard a guess. Not having a large catchment means we scout harder in NZ, country QLD and NSW.
If calling people out on their pettiness because their club goes on poaching raids and still can't win shit is offended, then consider me triggered.
