Call it copium but Payne Haas has played the contract negotiation card at almost every conceivable opportunity.

It wouldn't shock me in the slightest if he turns around and accepts the rumoured deal that we are trying to put togethor.

I can't recall a player who has asked for as many upgrades and the like in recent times. He may have signed with Souths but right now, it's a 2 club ball game. Was his management using Souths to get a longer deal? Who knows.
Bargaining is the third stage of grief, my friend.

I was there when I had convinced myself that Adam Reynolds wouldn't be a big loss.

“The discussions broached a number of possibilities, including a one-year deal, a three-year deal and even a mega six-year contract, which would have kept Haas at the club until the end of 2032.

It was Haas’ management’s preference to avoid a long-term, mindful of the inclusion of Papua New Guinea in 2028, in the same year the NRL’s new Collective Bargaining Agreement kicks in.

Haas is currently the highest-paid forward in Brisbane’s history on a deal worth around $1.2 million in 2026.

The Broncos were prepared to offer Haas north of that, in the vicinity of $1.3 million, plus the provision of ratchet clauses to reflect any increase in the NRL’s next TV rights deal from 2028 onwards.“

Broncos did get Reynolds and Madge so it’s only fair we get one back

I had accepted I would never watch souths win another comp in my lifetime now it’s the hope that kills you

I can’t believe Solly pulled it off and managed to keep it quiet for so long even if it’s largely because of Bennett

Souths should just give him a lifetime contract

The ageism when it comes to Bennett is crazy

Reckon if this didn’t happen he would’ve gone to png or r360 later and still may go to the latter

He's f**king right, you know.
We will call it copium because that's what it is.

Hakeem haas but not a legal name change

Maybe that’s another reason he wanted to move to Sydney lol

Not quiet sure of the timing... but wasn't Kevin the Kangaroos coach when Moh Payne decided to pledge to Samoa?

Anyway Kev, if you were still coaching the broncs, their last premiership would still be 2006 and plenty of players woukd have moved on because of you.

It's official now. 2 year deal with an option for a third (not surprising his contract lines up with Bennett's).
