.....history says that the minor premiers rarely follow through and win the premiership.

Minor premiers since 1980

1980 - Easts (lost GF)
1981 - Easts (3rd)
1982 - Parramatta (won)
1983 - Manly (lost GF)
1984 - Canterbury (won)
1985 - St George (lost GF)
1986 - Parramatta (won)
1987 - Manly (won)
1988 - Cronulla (3rd)
1989 - Souths (3rd)
1990 - Canberra (won)
1991 - Penrith (won)
1992 - Brisbane (won)
1993 - Canterbury (3rd)
1994 - Canterbury (lost GF)
1995 - Manly (lost GF)
1996 - Manly (won)
1997 - Manly (lost GF)
1997* - Brisbane (won)
1998 - Brisbane (won)
1999 - Cronulla (lost preliminary final)
2000 - Brisbane (won)
2001 - Parramatta (lost GF)
2002 - NZ Warriors (lost GF)

10 out of 23.....not a fantastic strike rate.
And only 1 out of 4 since the McIntyre Top 8 was introduced.

Still, better Penrith than the Roosters :)

Its actually 11 out of 23 ;-) . Thats still not bad odds at about a 50% rate of the minor premiers going on to win the comp and 19 out of 23 have made the Grand Final. If you weigh it up against teams winning from lower positions the strike rate would be much lower.

the thing working in the Panthers favour is that they don't all have big heads about it. they're just going to try and keep a low profile and get on with the job, and for that they must be commended.

They are very much like the Warriors were last year in that regard. Unfortunatly the Roosters are probably odds on to spoil the party for the second year in a row.

hmmm let's see - out of 8 (or 5) teams - the minor premiers have 50% chance of winning it, whilst the other 4-7 teams share the other 50%. Sounds like great odds to me, mate~!

Melbourne played Penrith twice and beat them twice including the win to end their so-called 'winning streak'.

Melbourne played Canberra twice and beat them twice including the win to end their so-called 'winning streak'.

Melbourne played New Zealand and beat them.

All these teams Melbourne will play if all goes to plan in the finals. All these teams Melbourne has beaten. All these teams Melbourne WILL beat to advance into the GF.

And then another fairy tale will be written.

Um.... True you did... However what the f**k is with "so-called" being in there? How is 7 wins in a row not a winning streak?
