It saddens me that son of Ivan is that stupid. He had a chance, growing up in the superior education structure in New Zealand, but unfortunately we forced his Dad out and it looks like his brain has turned to mush since.

I'm not sure how dumb you can be on as many levels as he was. A) for doing that god awful Tik Tok, although in his weak defence his smaller brain may have been calling the shots on that one. B) for lying, when he would have clearly known the evidence was out there that they didn't call around for 10 minutes, and he did know the footage was being taken. C) for saying he didn't tell them 'because they didn't ask'.

The NRL will have to go harder on him now, for blatant lying.
Agree. The self-entitled dickhead lied. That’s the real issue here.

They weren’t strangers though. He knew them very likely they had alteady been in contact with other family members. Hence seen as safe the is where education comes into it
Legally was fine according to the police it only is an issue due to playing footy

Considering those girls were drinking in a group and going elsewhere in a Uber , chances are they were going to mix with others and may not have been first Time. Also not knowing these girls , they could be people that are working and mixing with general community in the course of their job and t risk of having the virus. if just one of those girls had it and gave it to Cleary , a whole footy team would them become spreaders due to the nature of the training and game which they touch each other and that is 30 odd families that could be spreaders in the general community Which could be catastrophic. Now I know that is alarmist but that is the risk That is being considered by the government is allowing the game to resume . This is why when they break the rules it’s probably worse than any joe blow because of the contact footballers have in their employment . If I was to break social distancing rules , I’m not touching 30 odd people and risk being a super spreader

Id be fine with a month

So would I. Send a clear message to him and the comp that bullshitting, especially with something as serious as this, is to be condemned. Too much of a mentality of 'it's only wrong if I get caught' in professional sport. In the 21st century you're probably going to get caught, and you should be hit with something more than a wet bus ticket.

I get that people can do things as dumb as JAC. He's not a Rhodes Scholar. He probably doesn't understand the seriousness of this pandemic. But in Cleary's case, to not only not understand but to openly lie about it, is next level.

The real issue is that if he lied, he didn't need to. Yeah, I saw the phone come out, it happens all the time. What was I supposed to do, turkey slap the bitch down? Ram the phone up her arse sideways? Same penalty whether he knew pics had been taken or not.

He wouldn't know a thing about where they've been, who they've been in contact with etc.

And no, legally it isn't fine. The cops didn't pursue it further with him because he was in his own home, it was them who were in the wrong place. Although that does beg the question of whether an NRL player is strong enough to close a door on people who want to walk through it.

There have been other cases where the person hosting a ‘party’ have been charged

The same girls could spread it to his siblings at school/work atm players aren’t in quantine yet. You would think if it was a few weeks later all 4 would of been slammed with longer. It is dumb and they were rightfully punished but the calls for season long suspensions are just stupid

How would he know they don't have covid? The rule isn't don't gather with strangers, what he did was a risk, do not say that it wasn't. If we all went around doing what ever we wanted we would be in a similar position as those overseas.

Penrith fans always defend their team to the maximum, even when they are in the wrong, this though is ridiculous. He should have been suspended for a month.

I have said he was in the wrong. I have just said it isn’t the hanging offence others made it out.

The offence no the lying yep. Whatever Haas got for lying to Integrity unit last year should be the case here

Haha, the f*ck??

Just because C9 is usually shit doesnt mean that EVERYTHING that they want is bad for RL. (Im surprised that even needs to be explained)

Like i said, Origin will sell out regardless of the day and Wednesday will get bigger tv audiences. For what possible reason would Saturday be the better choice?

For the fans it means a nice day partying, bbq getting friends round etc to enjoy the games with no hangover at work next day. it will get the biggest tv audience of the year regardless of what day it’s on so why not do something for the fans for a change?

‘yes but as I said they wouldn’t be having full on contact with 30 others at work , doubt they are school kids as they were drinking and media would have made an issue of that .

The reason people are calling for season ban is they jeopardised the season .. do you think 4 weeks would be sufficient punishment if government tomorrow says no to nrl resuming next year with the game and rest of the players Loosing millions of dollars

It is the RL media after the punishments were handled down the Sports Minister was happy with the punishment

Where are those saying AFL is in doubt after their players messed up?

You'd think AT WORST that 'suspended' 1 game ban will be given to Clearly. It's not that he he did it, but be honest. He'll learn from this, people do forget he's still young (and no I'm not saying that excuses his stupidity). I'd up the fine to 20k, 10k suspended. Give him a 2 match ban, 1 match suspended.
