I await 30 people to laugh but if this guy isnt better than at least 3 of our bats then Ill give it away.

Hes scored 100 , 86* , 156 , 16 , 50 & 35 in his last six innings. Ignore the fat jokes, we know he has the ability and while hes unorthodox its not a terrible unorthodox like a few of the guys. Given that we like to go crazy over guys like Haddin/Watson who get the odd score, then these stats should be bradmanesque.

England must laugh seeing Hughes walk out to open or Smith walk out at 6 (he legitimately looks like getting out every ball).

I think everyone outside of NSW supresses a chortle....

Surely there have to be better players than then - North was better than Smith!

North's also 10 years older.

Khawaja's the man. A matter of time before he gets a start.

If Smith isn't getting a run as a spin bowler then why is he there at no.6?

Surely he wouldnt even rank amongst the top 10 available choices to bat at no.6 for Australia.

A truly bizarre selection.

Is he still that fat?

regardless, surely he's got to be better than Steve Smith?

But...but...but...Smith is the next Warne.

So he's a genius with a text fetish?

It's funny actually, the last leg spinner Aussies talke up was Cam White - at least he could bat... I know the NSW clowns will talk him up, but hard to see what the fuss over Smith is at the moment

He will end up being a very decent ODI player batting at 5-7 for AUS, bowling a few overs and he is the best fielder in the country. He will never really become a test player I dont think as I think technique is natural and dont see his ever being up to it. I dont know his first class stats but im sure there good but nothing to write home about

Hes an okay hitter but thats it. Scored an 80 when he just freed the arms vs pakistan because he was batting with 10 and 11.

The dudes 21, bit early to write him off?

Regardless he hit four first class centuries last season. He also bowls leg spin.

Thats one less ton than White has in his entire first class career.

And i guess it isnt just the fact that he hit four tons, it's the way he went about them. Really played himself in before he kicked off, so to speak.

His leg spin is also improving, has come a mile in a year or so and bowled quite well today

He shouldnt have been chosen at this point, needs a solid 1-2 years in shield cricket, but there is a ton of talent there. Not to mention he was captaining his grade side aged 19, pretty special in Sydney first grade.

You get the feeling he was chosen because the bowling option allowed them to play 4 quicks, but he wasnt needed in Perth and we didnt need four quicks here, so Khawaja would've been a better option.

that's the point though... his technique looks ordinary, he just looks uncomfortable at the crease... clearly he's not a test #6 at the moment... and looking at him, I'd be shocked if you don't have a few 21 year olds that are better bats... his bowling is only a bonus, if he's batting 6 he's got to have game!

Smith isn't a test batsman's arsehole.

If he is the best number 6 batsman in the country you can f**k me in pitt street

He's been so ordinary. Can't helpmeet look like getting out every ball. Khawaja is a better option at 6.

Cosgrove wouldn't be a bad option to open.

Smith averages 42 in 1st class cricket (same as Marcus North), last year he averaged 77 with the bat in Shield cricke. He's played all of 3 tests and people are writing him off already at the age of 21. Sure his technique is unorthodox and he'll probably never bat in the top 4 but thats not to say he's terrible. If Smith isn't the best number 6 in the country I'd like to know who is.....

If he was opening...

I was amazed they didn't go back to Phil Jaques (for the short term), it was not as if Jaques was going any worse than Hughes and he has a better technique.

Cossie is a no4/5 batsman.

Talent wise Cosgrove is easily in the 6 most talented batsmen in the country. The problem is as we all know his fitness and what that shows is he is not the most dedicated cricketer going around, and that is a big black mark against his name which tbh is probably fair enough.

He was given the option by South Australia to get fit and they would play him every week which would also give him a decent shot at International cricket and he said he would rather have a feed instead. Mind you the kiwi's have a fat f**k in their team in Ryder and he is a bloody good batsmen but with all that lard is going to be susceptible to injuries.
