I'm sure he'll bounce back at some stage, but surely he can't start next week. He's been shithouse this year.

McKinnon played well tonight I thought, and really, he has been outperforming Costigan for months now coming on from the bench. Deserves his starting spot.

I'm not sure about him bouncing back. I thought going into this year that 2011 and the start of 2012 he was well down on fitness and that was causing the lack of 'oompth' in his game but mid way through and it appears to be he's just lost whatever it was that made him a small but fairly dominant ruck runner.

I've noticed him having a breather at the 15-20min mark lately, too. Sometimes he'll only be on the field for like 30mins.

He must still be very unfit, that or Bennett sees him as ineffective, therefore giving him less game time.

I thought Rochow looked really good at lock out there tonight.

I won't be sad to see the back of Costigan. I was excited when we signed him but I think breaking his arm in his first game brought about his downfall. He's been nowhere near the form that saw him playing for Queensland regularly. No impact in attack...goes down as soft as a pillow when he gets to the line, and is good for at least one drop ball a game. Hits hard in defense, but it's not enough

We saw the future tonight in Rochow and that means Costigan and Edwards are fighting for one spot, if KOD develops also the both are out.

Costigan is a Wayne Bennett sort of player. The likes of Toni Carroll, Jeremy Smith and the like.
No fuss niggly players that can put on a hit.

When Costigan comes back, I'd prefer him coming on from the bench and playing a bit wider. He gets man handled too easily when he carts it up the middle.

Well Wayne bennett is carrying shit if he plays him over the blokes who had a dig tonight.

Neville is great for a drop ball, farked play the ball and penalty at the very worst time.

He's gone to shit. He's off. He's out of date.

Needs to pull his finger out.

so many of our 'gun' signings have turned out that way
it seems to be a sad trend for us

Let's keep one thing in mind though - he's on 220k a year. For what was a proven Origin player at the time who would go onto become arguably one of the Dragons top 3 form players in winning the premiership in 2010 he was bought at a bargain price.

It was very good recruitment by Stone. It's a shame he hasn't kicked on here but at 220k he hasn't been a complete dud, he's probably earnt half of it at least.

WHO ? Forgot all about this bloke last night - McKinnon & Rochow were BOTH very impressive so I'd let him have another weeks rest

Carrol was a better hitter, much more mobile and offerend plenty in attack. I don't think he and Nev are that similar. Smith is better in attack too.

I thought Rick Stone had it right with Costigan playing left edge and Taia right edge, with Houston in the middle. That is what I would do because it seems to suit all three of their skill sets.

I really don't understand why you'd have Taia at prop when he's a ballplaying backrower, Houston out wide when he's a clean-up defensive specialist with a good motor, and Costigan in the middle when he's small and ineffective against the big men. Not to mention Edwards on the edge when he's got nothing in attack whatsoever.

Basically I would shuffle around our entire forward pack and see how that goes before even worrying about how recruits fit in.

8. Mason
9. Buderus
10. Tetevano
11. Taia
12. McKinnon
13. Houston

14. Costigan
15. Edwards
16. Cuthbertson
17. Rochow / O'Donnell

I thought Neville was out of his depth on the edge. Mistake riddled performances with poor passing game. Butchered a fair few plays and tries last year that way. I wish he was playing the same position he played when Dragon's won the comp. Just pump that ball forward and smash everything that comes near you for 20 mins, twice a game.

Not going to argue with that, but when Edwards is the alternative it puts things in perspective? Nev at least has some sort of ballplaying ability - he is after all our back-up dummy half at the moment. I thought there were times he created space for his outside men - he wasn't great, but he was just about adequate compared to the way it is at the moment he is a waste of space and Edwards no better.

Put it this way, I'd have both in reserve grade with:

12. Costigan
13. Edwards

I wouldn't have either in my team next year if it could be helped.
