Cowboys should want to lose this week if Eels win

If Parra beat Broncs this week:-

Cowboys will likely only goto 5th Possy (would have to beat Storm by too many to get 4th Pos and Storm are the best defensive team statistically) if they win vs Storm this weekend leaving them to play the Tigers.

If they lose they cant move from 6th spot as teams lower cant catch them.

Lose and more than likely you play the wounded Broncos 3rd vs 6th.

Funny scenario as you want winning form but if they lose they get "rewarded".

Even funnier, once the finals start, it can sometimes be an advantage to lose in the first week. e.g. 2000 Canberra v Penrith. 'tis a great system.

True but,

Brisbane have 34 pts and +127
Tigers have 32 pts and +117

If Brisbane lose by 6 pts and Tigers beat Penrith by 6 pts that will mean

1. Eels
2. Dragons
3. Tigers +123
4. Broncos +121

So the Cowboys would then need to finish 4th to play the Broncos.

We're undefeated against Brisbane in the finals.

I like my chances this time too.

(That said, I still have 10,000 Tigers fans calling for my head after the last prediction I made!)

If Cowboys finish 6th they face a greater risk of being knocked out if they lose in the first week, I think they'll be doing their best to avoid that situation.

Cowboys will finish 4th with a win v Storm

Both teams are currently on 30 pts

Cowboys win they go to 32 pts with Storm on 30 so for/against means nothing.

Let's just say

Parramatta beat Broncos by 16
Cowboys beat Storm by 12
Sharks beat Souths by 6
Canberra beat Manly by 4
Bulldogs beat Roosters by 6
Tigers beat Panthers by 10
Knights beat Dragons by 4

The ladder would then be

1. Eels 36 pts +250
2. Dragons 34 pts +133
3. Tigers 34 pts +127
4. Broncos 34 pts +111
5. Cowboys 32 pts +82
6. Storm 30 pts +172
7. Sharks 30 pts -4
8. Sea Eagles 26 pts -100

9. Bulldogs 25 pts -172
10. Warriors 24 pts -13
11. Roosters 24 pts -25
12. Panthers 24 pts -26
13. Raiders 24 pts -119
14. Knights 22 pts -188
15. Rabbitohs 21 pts -226

Week 1 of the finals
Broncos v Cowboys @ Suncorp
Tigers v Storm @ Telstra
Dragons v Sharks @ WIN Stadium
Eels v Sea Eagles @ Parramatta Stadium

Cows cant finish 4th, highly unlikey with for and against anyway.

meant 5th

point is with a win v Storm the for/against between storm and cowboys means nothing

and the Tigers should beat the Panthers by enough to relegate the Broncos to 4th if they lose to the Eels

Cowboys won't try and lose a match. Its just not the Australian way. They currently aren't in the greatest form either so they need a win before going into the finals.

really? 1 victory? 10-0? 1 try to nil @ NQ in 2004? wow, such an alarming stat

I would be much happier to play the cowgirls in week one of the finals at Suncorp...a place the cowgirls have never won at.

the cows wouldn't mind at all.the broncos with a so called playmaker(lockyer)who can't tackle can't pass can't kick,it would be a walkover.

so all of a sudden lockyer is not a play maker?
how the hell did they have 10 straight wins a one stage?
I would be very confident of a victory of the cowgirls

It wont matter, 7 & 8 will be put through the cleaners in the first week of the finals, the rest will have a second week to improve on their losses.

Its Parra, Saints (in no particular order)...then DAYLIGHT!

Bah only daylight is between your ears, Every team in the 8 has a chance.

Stgeorge have lost 5 times to top 8 sides- Melbourne twice, Parra, Brisbane, Tigers.
Parramatta 4 times to top 8 sides- Brisbane, Stg, Tigers and sharks
Brisbane only 3 times, Stg, Melbourne, and Manly
Melbourne 5 losses- with 2 against the sharks, Brisbane, Manly and Parra
Cowboys 7 losses- with 2 to Brisbane and 2 to Stgeorge, Tigers, Sharks and parra
Tigers 7 losses- 2 to parra, manly, cowboys, melbourne, brisbane and stg
Sharks 7 losses- 2 to Brisbane, 2 to tigers, stg, cowboys and parra
Manly 6 losses- 2 to stg, brisbane, cowboys, tigers and sharks

Anyone of these teams could win the Premership, depending on how the final 8 turns out

Parra have not lost to the tigers this season. From the teams in the top 8 they have lost to:

Sharks (Rd3)
Broncos (Rd5)
Dragons (Rd24)
