Cowboys Young Guns

N.Q Young Guns coach "Happy" Thompson warned the team fears no one in the countdown to the N.S.W 1st division final series. The Young Guns thrashed Wests 54-20 at Campbelltown yesterday but wins to Balmain and Parramatta meant the Young Guns were unable to squeeze into 4th spot and a home final.
They now meet Balmain at Leichhardt on Saturday in a clash Happy can't wait to see get under way. The Young Guns have beaten Balmain twice this year. Teams are going to find us tough to beat and we plan to be involved in the finals series for the next 4 weeks. Happy admitted his main headache would come during the week when he tries to to finalise his team. Four players from the club's outfit that defeated the Warriors yesterday, Danny Moore, George Gatis, Scott Whiting and Paul Pensini, are all eligible for the Young Guns and Happy knows he'll have to make some hard decisions. Every player has done their bit and the squad that i do come up with will be a very strong one. We've completed the first partof our assignment in making the finals and now we can't wait to get stuck into the second part.

Retread - Don't get any funny ideas about these Young Guns beating Balmain, as long as we can kick a few goals, we will be right.

Tigger you know i'm a Balmain supporter first. I just wish they never had to meet first up in the semi's. May the best team win.

Young Guns coach Happy Thompson has finalised 15 of his 17 players for Saturday's clash but is weighing up a number of options for the final two interchange spots.
Players selected so far.

Centres - Danny Moore & Josh Hannay
Halves - Shane Muspratt & Noel Goldthorpe
Hooker - Paul Dezolt

You're not wrong Retread, that's almost a first-grade line-up.

If we win, any chance of a home final?

Bruce Mamando is only 27. He has been around though. He has played with the Raiders, Rams and Roosters before joining the Cowboys.
Sorry mate even ifthe Young Gunswin against Balmain they will stillhave all away games in the final series. The Cowboys Young Guns have to win four games straight to take the title.

Unless we win and two of the top three sides all lose, in which case we'd only have to play three matches ;)

Well done to the Cowboys yesterday, even Balmain was understrength to win an away final is never easy so I cannot take anything away fromthem.

Good on em.

Retread, Tigger...

Balmain won't go any further in the finals unless they promote Ben Black. As crap as I think he is, Balmain need a halfback. Starting their Fullback (Mulhall) at half yesterday didn't work and even moving Troy Robinson into half didn't work. They just didn't have any orginisation around the field.

Balmain will beat Parramatta this weekendand stay alive. The N.Q Young Guns have to win 4 away games to take out the major prize. IMO the Young Guns will get to the Grand Final and hopefully against the Tigers.
The win by the Young Guns has set up a clash against Newcastle on Saturday at the SFS. Experienced 1st graders Josh Hannay and Mark Shipway were the only injury casualties, but both are expected to be rightfor Saturday's assignment against the Knights. Hannay aggravated an ankle problem while Shipway suffered an injury to his eye socket.
Coach "Happy" Thompson expects to go in with an unchanged line-up against Newcastle. "Those selected did the job and will probably get the nod again this week, although i wouldn't completely rule out bringing Ashley Alberts into the squad," Happy said.

It was a pretty good atmosphere on Saturday, there were probably between 750-1,000 that showed up, which was slightly dissapointing, considering that there is now a move from 'The Weekly Times" to demerge the JV. There is a poll on the 2nd last page asking a few questions & the results will be sent to the Balmain RLFC. I am trying to figure out how i can get it to you long distance Balmain Fans.....

The Young Guns played sensationally well, there was a period of about 35 minutes were they did not make one handling error! Pretty much everytime they got the ball in our half they scored. Balmain did go done with a big fight, with 15 minutes left, the scored was 30-16 & the mighty Tigers had scored the last 2 tries, there crowd lifted & there was a feeling that something special was going to happen. I can't remember who it was, but he kicked a 40/20 with Joey Johns precision. Balmain won the scrum on the 10 metre line and almost scored off the 1st tackle! But then it all went to shit..... The boys got a warm round of appaulse, as they played with a bit of Balmain Spirit.

None of the kicks were easy, though if we had a decent kicker, the score would have been 36-24....

Anyway, the Young Guns were fired up & the deserved the victory from their 1st Half performance.

Next game for the cowboys is against the Knights.

I tip the Coyboys.

For the record, that's the second time this season I've tipped against a Knights team.

The Cowboys first div side knocked over a full strength Knights first div. side just a few weeks ago and I can't see how anything has changed.
