I've got no problem with a batsman protecting himself from some of those wayward throwbacks by bowlers but that is out.

Out. Probably not going to hit the stumps as his body is in the road but its a brain fade from Green.

Maybe we should ask Ben Stokes? He knows a bit about these types of dismissals.

That was the dismissal sir Bazball got on his high horse and bagged Steve Smith about the spirit of cricket while captaining NZ.

Ironically that incident happened at lords as well.

must be some room for the batter to protect themself
He didn't need to get out of the way to give the bowler a free shot

all he had to do was get back in his crease, I mean he's wearing pads ffs

brain fade

don't think you should have to wear one on the body if the bowler throws it straight at you

he was between the bowler and the stumps, so technically, yeah, he has to wear it and technically he wasn't out as he is allowed to react/protect himself but in this case he was protecting his wicket from being run out by playing it with his bat

I just dont like that rule, he should have been run out as he was out of his crease

In a different circumstance the players dont mind. Most batsmen deliberately obstruct the field when running between the wickets to avoid a direct hit to the stumps.

I have to side with brain fade. Move a foot back behind the crease or the bat is what he should be doing.

so if a bowler fields the bowl he gets a free peg at the batter and he just has to cop it on the body each time

uummm, no

only if he is between the stumps and the fielder, which is what I said in my previous response

all he had to do was step aside if he was in his crease and as he was out of his crease, he would have had to wear it, thats why some batsmen change thier direction to run between the fielder and the stumps so the fielder cannot hit the stumps

guy hits the ball to the bowler and doesn't move
bowler throws it straight at him
don't think he needs to jump out of the way - if anything should penalise the bowler

This was discussed during the Innings break on Fox yesterday, Junior, Howie and Skull, all agreed it should have been given out because he used the bat, although none of them are qualified umpires.

I've been watching a bit of the U/19 world cup. Some very promising lads there.
A couple of things.
First, there is no big 3 in the under ages. India and Australia are very strong then Pakistan and South Africa. England back in the pack along with Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, New Zealand.

Second. These guys don't shut up. Just so much inane encouragement every ball by every player. Guys down at fine leg shouting c'mon lads, the slips oohing and aahing over nothing, just constant chatter. Gets annoying real fast.

A very strong India are through to the final and will play either the Aussies or Pakistan. Sam Konstas is a real gun.

Green is not obligated to move. He's stood still.

The only thing in contention is that he used his bat.

He's entitled to protect himself from the throw and it would have hit him and not the stumps in any case.
