i would probably go the opposite... aubusson to 7 and keep cam at 9

aubusson originally came to us as a halfback and 5/8

What about Liam Foran - I heard he has been playing well above his years.

He was purchased as a half-back?

I would maybe give Foran a crack next week...at home against the Drgaqueens would be ideal match conditions...

If not; then Smith at 7 and Roy Aubusson at 9.

on the pre game show for the eels v dragons game is was stated cronk will proberbly only miss a week as mary toomey was quoted as saying it's just a bad sprain, though he will have scans tommorow for confirmation. having the bye after the dragons game, i only expect him to miss this game and return after the bye agaisnt souths along with billy slater, hopefully the scans prove mary right though, she's usually spot on.

Cronk will be back quicker that most people will think.

Cronk has always had problems with his ankles and ices them heavily after every game.

Ankle injury rules out Cronk
Stathi Paxinos | June 18, 2007

THE Melbourne Storm was expecting to lose half-back Cooper Cronk for as little as one game after he received an ankle injury during the Storm's 58-12 weekend humiliation of the North Queensland Cowboys.

High performance unit manager Mary Toomey said Cronk should be out for "a couple of weeks" at most and would have scans today to determine the extent of the injury.

"The fact he can walk on it, not much pain, not a huge amount of swelling, shows that it is in the lower end of the scale," Toomey said.

The Storm has a bye in two weeks, giving Cronk more time to recover.

Toomey said Matt King had been cleared off a quadriceps injury despite leaving the field in pain.

This is the same Mary Toomey who's early prognosis on Billy was that he copped a "good break" and would only miss 2-3 weeks. We all know what happened there so i won't be taking her "lower end of the scale" words as gospel in regards to Cooper's injury and i'll wait until the scan results are through. Today's paper says at least 2 weeks but could be anything up to 2 months.

The kids a gun, passing game is exceptional. Wouldnt suprise me at all if he's our #1 half in a year or 2, Coopers game is suited more to 5/8 then a true half-back imo

i looked up this syndesmosis strain mary toomey confirmed on the foxsports website article not too long ago and read up on it and found this:

- landing with twisting is very likely to stress and drive the tibia and fibula apart, causing a tear of the ligament and syndesmosis, Recovery time-frame: absolutely critical to prevent weight bearing on foot for up to three or four weeks with a more conservative progression through partial to full weight bearing. In total, allow six to eight months to return to sport.

i hope this isnt true...

Definitely like to see Smith get a shot at 7. It is the more important position out of halfback and hooker, so go with your best and most experienced player in the more important position IMO. Aubusson has shown he can do a job at 9, let him do it again.

Cronk is a gun and is so important, but we can cover him being out. Sensational.

Storm's Cronk out for three weeks
June 18, 2007 - 2:41PM

Melbourne Storm halfback Cooper Cronk will miss his first NRL game in more than a season after he was ruled out for three weeks with an ankle injury.

The ironman No.7 suffered a high ankle sprain in the Storm's 58-12 drubbing of the Cowboys in Townsville on Saturday.

An MRI scan on Monday showed a tear to the anterior ligament of the syndesmosis, the joint between the two shin bones above his right ankle.

"This is at the low end of the injury scale to this joint and we expect that Cooper will miss three weeks," said Storm physio Mary Toomey.

"His foot is immobilised in a splint and he is on crutches, but he's already started his rehab so the signs are good."

Coach Craig Bellamy wasn't giving away who he may call on to replace Cronk for Sunday's home clash with the Dragons, however Test hooker Cameron Smith has already put up his hand while in-form utility James Aubusson is another possibility.

"Since Cooper's moved into the halfback role for the team we haven't played without him," Bellamy said.

"He's a very resilient sort of character; he doesn't get injured too often.

"But now that he's out we're confident we've got the people that can do the job for us in that area.

Cronk should be available for the Storm's Round 18 clash against the Knights at Olympic Park on Monday, July 16th.
