Why it is not the right time for Gallen to start captaining this team of bums.

This situation leaves him too open to frustration. He invariably takes this out on the referee and to be honest does so whether it's warranted or not. Maybe he doesn't want to berate the bums around him and berating the opposition will only bring mirth.

So he hits out at the easy and obvious target. Trouble being that same target will get the last word.

The writing is on the wall for Gall. The last 2 weeks has seen him in hot water with refs for launching into them. Word will be out at league HQ. He's not far off being marched IMO.

Making him captain at this stage of the Sharks history is only forcing him to have to talk to refs and let's face it, he's no diplomat.

He'd need to be Thurston to get away with it though

Covell not good enuff for a regular start and Douglas gets worse with age. Odd as good young players usually improve

It's bordering on negligence to expose Gallen to being captain of that rabble.

Frenzy is 100% correct. Gallen is completely exposed as captain when we are going this bad. It is a matter of time before he says something and gets binned or worse. He has a target on his head.

CRONULLA'S 2011 captain Paul Gallen has escaped punishment despite calling referee Jared Maxwell a "f ... ing cheat" during last weekend's match against Manly.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal Gallen clashed with Maxwell in the 31st minute with the Sharks being belted 26-0 at Toyota Stadium.

Gallen was penalised and cautioned by Maxwell - but not sin-binned or sent off.

Failure to dismiss Gallen has set an ugly precedent for referees at all levels of rugby league. NRL refereeing officials were furious that Maxwell failed to dismiss Gallen with the drama being discussed at the weekly refereeing debrief on Monday morning.

A shocked Maxwell told Gallen on the field: "Now, I respect your frustration, that's the first point.

"The second point, there is no way in the wide world I'm going to talk to you the way that you just talked to me, that's why you're going to get a penalty [be penalised]."

The NRL match review committee did not issue a charge against Gallen because his words were inaudible on the Fox Sports coverage, but Maxwell knew exactly what the Sharks star said.

if the ref was cheating against the sharks he had a funny way of showing it

most people i talked to beleive the sharks played badly and that is what created the loss

And where was the ripping on Saturday nite?? I saw him standing behind the tryline with everyone else NOT saying a word. He should have been standing in front of them spraying spit, ala Bellyache.

I saw that ref penalise Gardner for not getting off the player.

Too be honest I thought he was about to penalise the Manly player who pushed Gardner over backwards while he was trying to get up.

Then 2 mins later Gallen is getting held down right under the same refs nose and he does zero.

So I can understand Gallens anger.
Calling the ref a cheat is not on...but Thurston does it so the refs only have themselves to blame for not doing anything about it.

The problem you guys have now is the refs know they f**ked up, so they're going to be watching Gallen like a hawk this week and penalising him for even the slightest transgression. Which works out well for my team, but is a sad indictment on the way the referees are coached by that moron Finch.

Although I lol'd when reading what he had said, it is still hurting the team when gallen constantly whines to the refs.

Skeepe, what you supporters of other teams don't realise, and we shark supporters do, is that Gallen and a few other players in the league are guilty on reputation prior to any consideration is given to the situation before the referee.

Was it last season or the season before where Gal was placed on report four times in quick succession and was exonerated on all four times.

If this happens again it will only be round two of a continuing story.

I believe at the time of the last round of "get Gallen" the pink whistle blowers should of been barked down by someone at our club.
