Melbourne and the NRL would have to be concerned with the poor crowds the Storm are getting to their games.

They have failed to reach 10,000 in their past three homes games. Drawing 9,460 against the Knights, 9,628 against the Raiders and 9,733 today against the Sharks.

The Storms average this season after 8 games is 12,744. But take out their best crowd of 22,694 against the Warriors then that average drops to 11,323.

They have another home game in two weeks against the Roosters. I don't expect much of a crowd for that one either with the Storm missing all their sate of origin players.

A successful team like the Storm should be drawing bigger crowds then what they are. I would hate to see their crowds if they were losing.

like I said
why would they be overly concerned
look at the opponents that they have failed to draw 10K against

Souths wouldn't pull much more then 10K against any of them either ... neither would Penrith .. & they hail from so called heartland

& by seasons end they'll have 3 20K + crowds under their belt at home
as good as 75% of Sydney clubs ... & better then the Raiders , Titans .. Cowboys .... Knights , probably the warriors too

a " storm " in a tea cup this debate really

would have 25 to 30K at the SFS
again .. the Dragons & their fans are settling for mediocrity

Kogarah should only be used for smaller drawing out of town sides

:lol: Plucking figures out of your ass again, is that you Buzz?
Dragons fans want the game at Kogarah, the SFS is not our home ground.

With an attitude like yours I would hate to have you running my team or the NRL.

Here we have a team in the Melbourne Storm who over the past 5 years have won 72 percent of their games. If it is not the best in the game then it would be pretty close. So we have a team that is winning games who also have three of the best players in the game today on Slater, Cronk and Smith. They have two exciting young backs in Duffie and Widdop.

The Storma average crowd this season is down by over 1,500 on last years figures. A season they had nothing to play for. This season they have something to play for. So why the drop off in crowds?

They have four remaining home games against the Roosters, Broncos, Panthers and Dragons. The games against the Broncos and the Dragons offer hope of good crowds. The other two games will struggle more then 10,000.

Right now the torm rank 14th in crowd averages this season. With only Manly and Penrith below them.

To match last years average they would need to average 18,500 per game for their remaining 4 games.

lets factor in 15K Kiwis too shall we
it helps that the crusaders were there.. they don't get near that sized turnout with any other team playing even allowing for them topping the table
they'll be lucky to get 30K next week against the brumbies.

Great crowd for Rugby Union in Queensland and a great crowd for Rugby League in Kogarah.
Was also impressed by the Newcastle crowd.

OT but did anyone else notice the Suns didn't get capacity at their first game at Carrara? 21,485 against 25k capacity

Am I reading correctly?

Raiderdave has defended Melbourne for posting a crowd at just over one-third capacity, while a sellout at Kogarah is somehow indefensible?

There is no need to start panicking yet, the three games in question have never been strong drawers for the Storm. Considering this year is a consolidation year for the Storm, we can't expect massive increases or anything.

As mentioned before, the Storm still have 2 of their blockbuster games to come, the Broncos and Dragons.

Averages for games:
Storm v Raiders - Average from 2005 - 2010:
8,989 (7.1% Increase)

Storm v Knights - Average from 2005 - 2009: (Last year's $1 has been taken out)
9,891 (4.4% Decrease)

Storm v Sharks - Average from 2005 - 2010:
10,321 (5.7% Decrease)

Now the Roosters match is unlikely to draw anything amazing in the next few weeks either, as it again has only averaged 10,529.

Yes. But that game is our one and only appearance on this year's "lowest crowds" list:
http://stats.rleague.com/rl/crowds/2011.html
 A team with 20,000 members should never have a home game appear on that list - it's absolutely SHAMEFUL.

I thought this thread was troll free. FFS i just want to see the crowds without having to read a hundred stupid posts.
Agreed. I'm doing my best to keep the results, crowds, averages and aggregates in this thread: http://forums.leagueunlimited.com/showthread.php?t=371571

Melbourne Storm have been in the NRL now for 14 years. And us VIC fans STILL can't watch NRL games or the Storm on FTA before midnight.

TV exposure cannot be under-estimated. Its should've been in place from day dot.

Not really a fair comparison between the two years.

Last year the Storm got crowds of 25,480 and 14,171 before the scandal broke, this coming off the back of winning the Grand Final.

Of course after news of the break, there was a call to arms of 23,906 for the Warriors match and then the launch of their new Stadium with the Broncos match, and a crowd of 20,032.

The new stadium factor, the joint tickets promotion for the Test on the Friday and the fact it was the Broncos helped with that crowd.

So in the Storm's first 4 games, they had their top 3 drawers, plus a few others factors that helped possibly add a few thousand to the crowd.

The Storm then proceeded to get:
12,420 v Bulldogs
10,449 v Roosters
10,661 v Cowboys
11,212 v Panthers
9,112 v Raiders
9,172 v Rabbitohs
8,902 v Sharks

And then the Knights match with the $1 tickets and farewell to players which got
20,517

So it was the Storm's massive start and then the final promo that is why their average last year is larger than how they are going this year.

When did Kogarah sell out? Wasn't today, that's for sure. Plenty of seats left behind the post and another crowd of sub 20k for the defending premiers.

While i got you, why should all teams be judged on the same basis? Would you compare the Gold Coast Suns crowds with Collingwood and call the Gold Coast crowds a disgrace to the sport of Aussie rules? What i'm saying is that you can't hold teams like Canberra and Melbourne to the same standards of crowds you do with Brisbane and Canterbury because the situations are vastly different.

Empty seats = not sold out mate.

Deal with it.

You couldn't buy a ticket = sold out

Deal with it!

Ground wasn't at capacity = different to SOLD out

Deal with it!

Unfortunately it seems apparent that we are always going to have 2 or 3 thousand supporters effected with the scheduling no matter what time or day the match is. Begs the question that it is only matter of a time before we need to be offering the resale of non attending members seats as capacity is a valid target also, especially if we can make more money selling the same seat again even if it's only a % of original ticket price.
