Great work. Now to keep the momentum going - they need to promote the hell out of it, at the very least on Fox's NFL channel.

I think a lot of Americans would watch it out of curiosity if you promised all the big hits - but without the body armour.

Just had a look at their website. They will be broadcasting Origin in HD. That's right, people in the Middle East and North Africa can watch Origin in HD and we cannot.

n.b. 7:30pm tonight on GEM is Antiques Roadshow.

The NRL and Crowe can get the State of Origin shown in the US and other places around the world, but in Australia the so called friend and owner of the rights Channel 9 cant even get 9 Perth to show it on the Digital Channels.
Meanwhile Conroy allows the AFL to show games on the Digital Channels on 7,why did the NRL not apply for the same thing to apply to them?
Someone should ask out fearless leader that question

If only we can convert 1%

Great work Russell. The potential of NRL in USA is huge if it could get the exposure.

If 1% of the population watched from the USA, there would be more watching from there than Australia.

Hollywood actor Russell Crowe has brokered a television deal to beam Australia's State of Origin Series live to 40 million viewers in the United States.

American sports giant FOX Sports will televise all three clashes between New South Wales and Queensland, starting with Wednesday's opener in Brisbane, as well as the NRL Grand Final.

The announcement follows a broadcast deal struck with the assistance of Crowe, the co-owner of South Sydney, between the NRL and head of FOX Sports David Hill.

The deals sees the United States join the UK, Pacific Islands, Canada, north Africa and the Middle East, central and southern Africa and parts of Asia in broadcasting the Origin Series live.

"This new United States agreement significantly adds to the mainstream exposure of two of our biggest events," NRL chief executive David Gallop said.

"It sees more than 40 million homes across the United States now able to experience live the passion and rivalry of the 2011 Harvey Norman State of Origin Series and the Telstra Premiership Grand Final."

Well done Rusty.

I admire the idea but if anymore then 4000 people watch it over there I'd be sincerely suprised. 40,000,000 he certainly has high hopes

Whats more impressive on Rusty's behalf, is that Souths are barely involved in Origin at all! (Sure Taylor is 18th man, but its doubtful he'll play)

So he is doing it for a love of the game rather than for Souffs exposure.

actually, by promoting the top eschelon of the game, rusty is hopeful that this will then rub off on souffs. this will occur as follows:

- rusty promotes the game
- people watch it, and get hooked.
- people want to find out more about it and start looking
- because people know of crowe, naturally when talking "league & crowe" the word souffs will come into the picture somewhere along the line..
- so people from the USA are more likely to adopt souffs as their team, even though the quality of ball played in SOO is highly different to that played by souffs...

it's standard halo marketing stuff...

Why don't you keep your opinions to the Souths Troll thread, because you clearly have NFI.

Further, don't derail a serious thread with your inane garbage.

To be fair, in NZ we have to pay a fortune for the priviledge of watching it... unless we stay up til midnight and watch the replay with commercial breaks every few minutes.
