Some observations on the current table:
* Only Sharks and Dragons haven't had a bye yet.
* This weekend Cowboys become the first team to have their second bye (how do they work these things out?!?!)
* We have the second-worst F/A (-72) and it's almost exactly half the worst (Souths with -142)
Over the next few weeks this is who we play:
* Round 12 Souths (H) - must win game if we have any idea of making the finals
* Round 13 Broncos (A) - we're unlikely to win here. Half-way mark.
* Round 14 Raiders (A) - I'd rate us a very good chance except that Noddy will almost certainly play in SOO 2. If we can win this w/o Noddy then I really think that finals are a possible. Who'll play half?
* Round 15 Panthers (H) - should we pray that lots of Panthers get injured in SOO2?(Just Joking). The difference between the 2 teams is not as great as last year, but I still think we're an unlikely win here.
* Round 16 Bye (at last!)
We'll beat Souths + a chance to beat Raiders + the bye. That would give us 16 points from 32, which is just inside the 8.
If we finish:
* 9th or 10th - disappointing, but an improvement over 2003
* 8th - achieveable, and a realistic goal
* 7+ - not impossible, but a bonus - sign SR for 3 years (but not too much power ;-) )
I refuse to consider the possibility that we finish less than 10th - I rate us over Souths, Warriors, Eagles, Tigers, Cowboys, Eels at least.
Couldn't help myself - had to look at Rounds 17-26. I believe we will definitely get the points against: Warriors (H) (18 ); Eels (H) (23); Bye (24); Cowboys (A) (26). If we can win at least one of: Dragons, Storm, Knights in that period that would give us 26 - 8th. That's do-able.
Just a final bit: First half 2002 we were pretty ordinary, then we got it together. Doesn't prove anything but it shows what's possible.
