Half our squad is off contract at the end of this season. We'll keep Semi if he wants to stay, Norman too.

Being on a one year deal Michael Gordon would be feeling the heat, quality player but Gutherson showed more in attack in one half than Gordon has all season.

It seems to me only the new players to the Eels this year/last year would be on hefty contracts, if the Eels knew what they were doing (and clearly they don't), as prior to this year they were not very good.

You'd think one or two of Scott/Foran/Gordan/Jennings would have been the contract(s) to push them over.

I loved Gordon's efforts, and he is a really solid player, but I agree he is just OK and compared to those other new guys probably doesn't add as much.

Those board members should be too ashamed to ever be in public again, let alone dragging the Eels through court. Parra members, assuming you do vote for your board (? maybe that's the issue?), please get rid of the lot and get brand new people with no links to any of the past boards.

I think Bellamy is a great coach, wouldn't you agree? Leaves no stone unturned to win.

I distinctly remember another very successful coach say, totally unrelated totally to Melbourne, he was very involved with salary cap management - Wayne Bennett.

You can't tell me every coach doesn't have a say what they pay each player, to get the players they want in their club. Common sense says they do! If they don't, they are doomed to fail getting the best players at the best value. They may not negotiate but they'd give the tick of approval on any offers.

I'm by no means sure but I think bringing Daniel Anderson in was part of taking this responsibility away from Arthur while certain people within the club wanted him gone. He has clearly been instrumental in signing guys like Scott and Foran from a personal standpoint but I think Anderson and other management were far more responsible for the business side. But who knows for sure

No ones picking up Gordon for you. Watmough, Paulo and hope some team wants to pick up someone from you.

Really? Paulo is on peanuts right now, so I doubt he'll be released early even though it would make sense. Gordon can play 1-5 and kick goals. The Storm are happy to take Ryan fking Morgan, you'd reckon they'd rather Gordon for similar money. Tigers backline is basically cancer. Titans and Dragons too.

I'm not suggesting Gordon will go anywhere, but he'd be one of a couple of logical choices.

Given the NRL financial season (Nov 1) is now into it's 7th month, wouldn't that mean Parra has to move on essentially $1.4M worth of talent? (which is $580k over the remaining 5 months). And that would be $1.4M above any players they get as replacements, if any of those replacement land in the top paid 25.

That would cause devastation to the current roster. NRL have said they won't accept players staying with pay cuts either.

That is of course only if they want to play for points for the remainder of this season.

Some people are saying this, but this doesn't seem "fair" to me (though you could argue any chance is fair to cheaters...). It is the annual value of the squad compared to other squads that seems to be the issue.

If they offload $575k of player contracts or more, their squad is of equal "value" (by the rough reckoning of the salary cap) to other squads. I would hate them to win this year, but do think giving them a sniff is better than having a dead team in the comp.

What if, hypothetically, we DO scrape in the 8 and win the damn thing?

I'm a die-hard Eels man, and even I would be bittersweet about it.

We mustn't be allowed near the Finals, for the integrity of the NRL, imo.

And it pains me to say it, because our players deserve to play in the Finals - but the club needs to be punished.

It's not like there put a star studded team, the idiots must be paying overs for there players because on paper it's not even in the Top 5 teams in the comp. If you can't fit that roster under the cap there f**king idiots.

So technically I don't feel there cheated there just f**ked up what there paying the blokes, it's not a team that should be over the cap. If those Broncos can fit under the cap with 9 internationals the Eels should have no dramas.

As much as I disliked the Storm and therefore was unconcerned at the time, having them play for no points was ridiculous and I think Greenberg is legit in saying that was a mistake they don't want to repeat.

To me, tis is just like a story I know... called The Puppy Who Lost His Way. The world was changing and the puppy was getting... bigger. So, you see, the puppy was like industry, in that they were both lost in the woods, and nobody, especially the little boy - society - knew where to find them. Except that the puppy... was a dog. But the industry, my friends, that was a revolution.

Perhaps you could get in there and help with the books, immediately after you learn to spell

Watmough for example 700k a season plus 200k in 3rd party agreements. No way in the world is he worth that, massive overs.

You do realise if that were true we wouldn't have to shed anyone else? Watmough retires, we replace him with Alex Twal in the top 25 and we're 600k better off....

Who knows what Paulo is on, given what your boards done. Morgans a loan from what I understand, he's still contracted to parra for next year.

He has an option to return, rather than being under contract as such. Anyway I think we can all agree that Michael Gordon is a much more attractive option than Ryan Morgan

incorrect. He's contracted to Parra til the end of 2017. He's on loan for 2016 with an option in his favour to return for 2017.

He's already been paid 6 months worth of it so that counts no matter what. They get rid of him now it only takes about 400k off the cap, if they got rid of him before the season like they were trying to do they would be under.

Yeah but Michael Gordon may not be too keen on relocating to Melbourne or giving up playing at fullback
