Nrl360 covered it unusually well tonight and Greenberg presented well I thought.

Good question by Kent asking him if the fact the only three big cases have been due to whistle blowers does the NRL have the ability to actually detect cheating and Greenberg pretty much admitted they were unlikely to discover it themselves!

Rugby league just keeps shooting itself in the foot.

Let's just keep stripping points, premierships all sorts of things off teams.

Doesn't seem to happen much in other codes.

Just sack the administrators involved and heavily fine the club. Stop this stripping of points/premiership shit.

Agreed, they even stripped them of the nines title ffs, the nines is just abit of fun and majority of teams don't even play there stars lol. Embarrassment.

Cowboys arent a rich club
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-07-...ys-players-property-deals-above-board/6654168

just some rich friends,,,

Think about

Thurston - 1.2
Morgan - 700
Tamulalo - 750
Tamou- 700
Coote - 500
Scott - 700

what are the other 19 on ... ??

Cool figures bro.

I definitely believe they signed Morgan for 700k before the 2015 NRL season.

Coote isn't on 500 this year either, that's what he reportedly re-signed for, which was a big increase on his current deal.

All of your other figures are highly inflated too.

12 from 15 very unlikely with origin around the corner, current injuries and availability, plus future injuries, everything has to go perfect.

Parra should just do a big f**k you to the nrl when they lose a couple games, and start fielding a 2nd rate team when they reach the point of not making the 8.

$570k ain't that much, but what combination of clubs and players can squeeze that in under the cap? Can they load off players and still pay a percentage themselves to get the portion the other club is paying to get that amount down or is that door also closed?

Really need to do a better job of cooking the books next time.

Plenty of superleague clubs with marquee space in cap that might pick up a decent player for rest of season

The salary cap scandal means that Parramatta must shed players. So who must they keep if they are to have a chance of making the playoffs?

They will try to force Watmough to retire. But they will still need to release another top player to get under the cap.

I would say that they must keep Kieran Foran and Semi Radradra for sure. But what about Corey Norman, Nathan Peats, Michael Jennings, Tim Mannah, Junior Paulo?

Name three players who they must keep if they are to have a chance of making the playoffs.

I am assuming that Anthony Watmough is a goner. The club cannot afford to keep a crock who cannot prove that he will be able to play again.

Jarryd Hayne has said that if he returns to the NRL he only wants to play for Parramatta.

Unfortunately for Jarryd and Parramatta, if he does return in the next three years he will not be able to be paid his real value, because Parramatta will be too close to the salary cap maximum.

Parramatta would only be able to pay Jarryd a fraction of his real worth, unless they release Kieran Foran, which they probably will not be wanting to do.

This means that the Sydney Roosters would be back in the contest for Jarryd Hayne -- unless they sign Sonny Bill Williams for next season and beyond.

I am not suggesting that Jarryd Hayne will come back to the NRL for certain. He still has the chance to make it in the NFL -- if not for the San Francisco 49ers, then for another team.

But if he doesn't succeed in the NFL, he will surely return to the NRL. I don't think that Super League clubs could afford his AU$1 million plus annual contract.

Apparently we are cap complient this season, take from that what you will.

We finally get our shit together on the field, good coach and staff. A quality team to be proud of and then this shit happens. Supporting this mob is soul destroying.

I haven't been paying close attention to this story so I went back to the start of the thread to try to get a sense of what actually happened. This, to me, sums up why this is such a shame- Parramatta seem to have wasted a rort on a pretty crap roster, then got their shit together with a team going great and been punished for previous transgressions. At least Melbourne got "Premierships" out of their rorting

big hit!

570k is plenty enough.

it's not a case of say, getting rid of norman who is hypothetically on 500k, and then just needing to find another 70k.

if norman is on 500k, then cutting him saves 250k cos nearly half the season is gone. but then he has to be replaced in the top 25 squad by another player. on minimum wage, that'd take up at least 42.5k so the net effect is really only about 207.5k. there would be more than 360k of half-year salaries to dump. the lower the salary of the dump player, the less effective the move.

that's why Parra are screwed if they want a shot at this season. they'll have to shed around 3 high salary earners to get back under the cap. and getting rid of their top players will weaken their side considerably.

if they can get this watmough thing through, that would help greatly. he's not contributing to their early showing this season, and isn't worth what they're paying him anyway.

So business as usual eh?

Offloading player x on $500k a year, with (over) half the year gone, will not get them $250k.

Other clubs might take player x for $100k (if they are lucky), leaving the Eels to top up $150k of his salary.

Judging by the way the Eels overpay their players, player x might only be worth $50k to other clubs.

They are going to have to get rid of Watmough & 1 of their highest paid players to fit under the cap, at the least.

Foran, Semi, Norman, Scott, Jennings - they would be their biggest names. Hang on, didn't they just get 3 of those guys. Hope they have to trade 2 of them.

The more I think about it, the more I think they got off lightly!

They seem to think 12/15 will get them a finals birth = 28 points with the bye. They should've been stripped of 28.
