Well as he NRL said yesterday, they have cheated the cap 5 of the last 6 years.

They obviously didn't know the full extent of this but they did smell something rotten.

They should've docked them the 4 points when they made their last determination & stopped the Jennings sale.

It was a slap on the wrist & now look at the situation.

Once again, they have slapped them on the wrist & will it deter other clubs doing it in the future...probably not.

I agree with the Storm people being pissed that Parra got off lightly - this has been going on for bloody ages - doesn't excuse what the storm did though of course.

I just don't understand how, with all the alleged issues para were having, the NRL let them sign Jennings.
That's a very good question. Simply removing Watmough's salary might get them under the cap, but it won't change the fact that they were able to secure Jennings and perhaps even Foran whilst knowingly over the cap. And that's very murky ground as to what constitutes fair indeed.

And yet I do feel very sorry for Eels fans. They've had to endure an awful team for about 5 years, and as soon as they show signs of being a Premiership threat this happens.

I could also understand them being bitter. 300k from Broncos Leagues Club goes missing and the NRL says "move along, nothing to see here". So there is the sense that the Eels are getting pinged for crimes other clubs have/are committing.

That being said, the Directors and people in charge at the Eels are a disgrace. They've let the fans down and are continuing to do so by not standing down immediately. Shame on them.

Pretty sure it's because without the TPAs added to this years cap the team is fully salary cap compliant - dollar wise. The Jennings and Foran deals were heavily scrutinised by the NRL, as the Eels were already under a microscope, and approved.

It's only the addition of TPAs considered to be 'not at arms length' from the club that puts the Eels over this year. I'm yet to see any clarification of these TPAs, which ones have the NRL considered illegal - or have they just decided all Eels TPAs for this season are going to count on the cap as they were guaranteed by the club? The number seems to indicate they are counting all TPAs as illegal, which might well be the case.

I'm not making excuses for my club, cheating is cheating and we should cop the punishment. Just pointing out how the Eels were able to sign players for this season, albeit with an advantage of guaranteeing extra money that other clubs couldn't offer.

It wont even do that apparently. SMH is reporting he only has about 450k owing to him for the remainder of this season or something.

He has already been paid 7/12 of this season's salary. They'll have to shed more than a couple players and hope their third party deals (if they have any) aren't included under the cap.

Interesting that Parra hired Shitbert in Nov 2015

To perform a Salary Cap review and he and Sharp declared it all good

Can't believe these 5 pricks are going to take this further.

Really shows their agenda and purpose - nothing to do with the good of the club and everything to do with self ego.

Politicians would be green with envy at their shameless self preservation.

Pathetic germs.

Agreed. It's disgraceful behaviour. Even if they feel they are personally not to blame (head in the sand) they should fall on their sword for the best of the club.

Umm perhaps because the NRL did an investigation and found that no players had received extra payments, and found that Brisbane were salary cap compliant.

No they couldn't find the extra payments

story from the same company that owns your club.

Not being able to find the payments is different to finding no players had received extra payments.

Not as I understand it as he has not played this season the insurance payment would be back dated if approved as a new injury.
I could be wrong but that's how i read it.

The injury occcured in Feb. If it's career ending it will be backdated till then. Still that's about a 3rd of his contract counted under the cap.
