Well the Bulldogs didnt (they actually gained a rep player, Andrew Ryan, even after being caught cheating) and they won a comp out of it. Expect the Eels to do the same.

That was disgraceful.

There has to be a balance between rubbing a club out forever and the slap on the wrists these clubs got. If the eels win the comp in the next two years that would be hugely unfair on the clubs that havent assembled a team illegally.

Eels fans have my sympathy mind so thats why i think a short sharp shock of a one year reduced cap is the fairest response. Then they will have to lose some of the illegally gathered side. At present cheating the cap is the best way of rebuilding because the pubishment isnt that bad. Its easier to retain players then it is to sign them. As soon as newcastle get free of the nrl if they can find the money they should go all out building an illegal team.

So, not only are you an absolute moron, you're a bit of a merkin as well...?

No - this is business

If you're running Parramatta you can either say, we'll get rid of Watmough (almost a certainty) and Jennings and someone else just to get under the cap for this season so we can compete for points and make an unlikely charge at the Finals in the outside hope we finish 8th. Who the f**k has won from 8th?

Getting rid of Watmough might take a number of weeks - weeks they can't afford if they want to get back under the cap. If it takes more than 2 weeks they can't make the Finals anyway. Their only alternative is to get rid of Norman and Jennings or Foran in which case they can't win the bloody thing anyway and they've f**ked themselves for next season as well

That's a great move

If it was me and I was running Parramatta, I'd say f**k it. This season is as sure as shit gone. Let's get ourselves under the cap 100% for next season and go for it then.

They really don't have many choices other than that.

The players would love that.

Cheaters basically spitting on the NRL and the rest of the competition.

The NRL shouldnt have left the door open for them to exploit by keeping the squad and play for no points. Should set them to a negative point balance so that it is impossible to reach the finals this year. Then instead of an open-ended chance to get under the cap give them a hard deadline of say 4 weeks. Once that deadline is up if they are under the cap they can play for points, if not they start on -x points for next season as well.

Give them definite boundaries or they will take the piss

The Watmough contract issue has me confused after a bit of research when I could have been more productive at work. I came across this factsheet on the RLPA website:

http://rlpa-test.aptsolutions.net/visageimages/SecureDocuments/68960150727-RLPA-FS-CEI-Insurance.pdf

It says that a club has to pay out the rest of a players contract regardless of the length. A player is then entitled to an insurance payout if they are in the last year (2 years insurance payout) or second last year (1 year of insurance payout) of their contract. Watmough still has 2 years to run on his contract after this year (commenced a 4 year deal last year). So why is he entitled to an insurance payout?

Or is this something seperate

It's all very vague. Not like there are multiple signed contracts or dodgy registered companies involved.

For such a specific penalty and specific $ amount for compliance I would expect more detail. So far it's like a DT article. Long on emotion, short on facts.

So it looks like storm backers are considering legal action over the disproportionate penalties. Personally I couldn't care less if our 07/09 titles get reinstated - not going change the fact that I attended the most pointless season of all time in 2010! (Excuse the pun)

they stripped Parra of the 9's trophy so i have nfi why those geniuss think they can get premierships given to them

Didn't need to guess which Storm puppet wrote the article.

Honestly, I think short of images of the whole organisation strangling babies and knocking old grandmothers down in the street, I couldn't possibly dislike Melbourne Storm more.

Shut the f**k up. You cheated, you were caught, you were punished. The NRL did not trust you to shed players for that year because it was systematic rorting involving players, coaches and officials, and you never showed contrition for it. And still aren't.

'The Storm won the 2012 Premiership with a radically different team, forced to shed superstars like Greg Inglis'. My god.

Storm backers considering legal action? Really? What standing do they have now days to appeal the punishment meted out to the Melbourne Storm since the people quoted hold no official position with the Storm these days? As such they would lack legal standing to challenge them as far as I can tell.

570k is plenty enough.

it's not a case of say, getting rid of norman who is hypothetically on 500k, and then just needing to find another 70k.

if norman is on 500k, then cutting him saves 250k cos nearly half the season is gone. but then he has to be replaced in the top 25 squad by another player. on minimum wage, that'd take up at least 42.5k so the net effect is really only about 207.5k. there would be more than 360k of half-year salaries to dump. the lower the salary of the dump player, the less effective the move.

that's why Parra are screwed if they want a shot at this season. they'll have to shed around 3 high salary earners to get back under the cap. and getting rid of their top players will weaken their side considerably.

if they can get this watmough thing through, that would help greatly. he's not contributing to their early showing this season, and isn't worth what they're paying him anyway.

The Watmough signing was the biggest f**kup in NRL history. Everyone knew he was getting overpaid and that he would never be able to give value for money because of his age an injuries!

Corruptamatta got smacked with a feather Storm got slapped with a sledgehammer by the nrl.
At least TG went to cheating eels club before he made the punishment public.
giddyup never gave that courtesy to Storm.
corruptamatta has been cheating the cap for the last 5 yrs and they are being given a chance to get under the cap otherwise they will lose more points. yep sounds fair to me.

You poor bastard.
That's not fair is it?

Cool story bro.

No one even picked us to be in the 8 before the season, now we're some super power team? Pulease.

On paper we're no where near those Cantrbury or Melbourne teams.

We just have a bunch of dopes running the club who have mismanaged the cap and overpayed Nuffies for the past few years.

And you signed how many in a year?

Why is it that other clubs have to suffer for their "overpaid nuffies" but you get to just write cheques (or more to the point, stuff bags full of untraceable bills)?

Cheaters prosper in the NRL.

Part of me just wants them to leave it alone. Same way as I want the Parramatta Five to leave it alone.
