Parra shouldn't be allowed to play full stop. Should've been kicked out of the comp to make way for expansion.

If it's just the TPAs that put the Eels over the cap and prior to them being added on top the Eels were salary cap compliant surely the NRL needs to provide specifics as to which TPAs are considered to be 'not at arms length' and how so the Eels can respond accordingly?

I guess you missed the part about cash payments to players directly from the club ?

Nothing to defend yet. No details, just vague accusations followed by specific penalties.
.

Is that you Steve Sharp ?

Ok a source please? How do you know?

Choose to stare all common sense and logic in the face without accepting it all you like.

But don't play the sanctimonious "show me the source" crap when everyone knows how that whole thing went down.

Sigh.....again.....the NRL investigated the Broncos & they were cleared of any wrong doing. But because we're the most successful club in modern rugby league history you haters keep whinging & whining.

Oh Yes of course they were cleared I never said they weren't! The 300k that everyone refused to talk about or explain what happened was not used for anything dodgy! No way in the world!

This whole Watmough thing is going to be VERY interesting.

My understanding of the situation is that if the insurance company agrees to payout his contract, then it does not count against the Eels salary cap this year. Is that correct?

If so, then the Eels have to prove to the insurer that the injury that has caused him to retire is a completely new one and unrelated to pre-existing conditions?

If that's the case then they surely have snowballs chance in hell of proving that.

His knees have been shot for 4 to 5 years and he has openly said so in many interviews. So there is documented evidence from him that his knees have had major issues prior to joining Parramatta.

The way I see it, his salary should count towards their salary cap this year. Next year onward, its off their books, but this season it should be included.

If they want to roll the dice and put an over the hill, injury prone player on their books to help lure another player, then live by the sword and die by the sword.

But there is no way known they can show an insurer that this knee problem is not related to previous issues. I work with insurers every day and pre-existing conditions is the BIG issue they look at.

I will be stunned (and quite suspicious) if he comes off this years salary cap (based on the assumption they have to prove the knee injury is new and unrelated to previous issues).

Signing Watmough for reportedly 850k a season must have to go down as one of the stupidest recruitments by a Club ever.

Doesn't the Club do player Medicals before paying a player that sort of cash?

Who knows what Gee did with that money before it was repaid. But to just assume it was used to rort the salary cap like everyone claims, is unjustified. It could have been used for anything unrelated to football at all. Maybe he had to pay off a bookie. Who knows ?
What we do know, is that the NRL did an investigation, and found that no players had received extra payments.

Exactly! I haven't assumed anything in that comment FTR I simply stated what we know including that the Broncos were cleared, it isn't my fault the facts look incriminating. Andrew Gee refused to answer the questions by the NRL in regards to that money, why? who knows? IMO it seems something went down that he didn't want the NRL to know about therefore directly refused to cooperate, I feel like that is a fairly safe assumption.

Would have been very interesting to know who gave Andrew Gee 300K from the Broncos Leagues Club, why he took it and what it was used for hey.

Ha the NRL 'investigation' into the Broncos books, what a joke. Everyone knows they are way over but they don't find anything unless there is a whistleblower... or like Parra recording the board meetings discussing the rorts..oops

Medical or not he was a shot player, completely past it, definitely no longer worth 850k

I don't agree that's a 'safe assumption'.

He may not have wanted to answer questions as to not incriminate himself, or others, in some way. Again, if he had shady personal deals going on, he may not have wanted to explain this to the NRL, which may have passed on info to other sources.

Do they ?

Actually, everyone knows that Brisbane players much easily source TPA's than other clubs, which is legal under the rules. That's the advantage, but it's within the rules so we'll take that advantage.

Parra fans and club would be best advised to focus on getting their team legal as quickly as possible.

If they stuff around it can easily drag on for 1-3 weeks past the target date, and that will give them next to no chance this season.

Step 1 - those who have had their accreditation revoked by the NRL need to step back from the club for the remainder of the season or until they can resolve the issue with the NRL.

Step 2 - they need to get the team under the cap ASAP, that may not be as easy as some think and some tough decisions may need to be made..... but if they have to be made it is best to make them quickly.

In particular any player swaps or deals with other clubs may be difficult to put together quickly, there is no reason for the other club to be in a rush, so Parra has to offer a good deal.

From the sounds of things on here, the radio and TV Id say most fans and the club have pretty much given up on 2016
