The Game Dally M Awards 2022

Can we find out for the shits and giggles who votes for each player for each round.

IIRC, when the votes were public, they used to indicate who was the Dally M judge for each game, so you know who awarded the points. Most of them were people who were on one of the TV commentary teams and usually an ex-player to boot.

Easiest draws in history. Hahaha . Yeah ok bud.
It legit was

Sharks being a top 8 team themselves could play a max of 16 games against bottom 8 sides meaning 8 games against top 8 sides minimum. The Broncos capitulation saved them from actually having the mathematical easiest draw there is as raiders finishing 8th meant the sharks only played 15 games against the bottom 8 (14 games against the bottom 7). The finals proved that both the Sharks and cowboys finishing position was inflated by an easier draw compared to the rest of the top 8, it is no fluke that in 3 finals game between them the only win came against each other.

Anyways, Nicho still deserves his medal for being consistently the best player in a winning side.

To a degree, but you can only beat who you are up again. The so called easy draw at the start of the year might be a tough draw. Who had the Cowboys finishing second pre season for instance? This notion of soft and tough draws are weird, especially this year when it's Penrith...huge gap....the rest.

Also injuries have played a part. Penrith, for example, whilst they have had some injuries, have not had the number of season ending or long term injuries in the quantities that teams like the Roosters or the Rabbitohs (for example) have had. So things like that have an input too.

100%, but they do have the best depth as they have juniors coming out of everywhere. For instance if Cleary was out, O'Sullivan is a very good backup. and was very solid during that suspension. It's why I feel Penrith are so well placed, it's their players from 14-35 in their squad that are so good and solid. Most of the top say 7 sides have a great top 13, it's the bench and depth that are key, and for some sides it drops massively.

People pick and chose their agenda and it makes them look stupid.

Beginning of the season we had the Titans and Knights twice. And playing Cowboys would have been seen as an easy game .

A few years ago when we scraped into the 8 people were complaining that we didn't play many teams from last years top 8, this year they complain it's this years top 8.

Which is it? lol

Add Manly in there for twice as well, all finalists from last year played twice this year.

maybe those teams finished 1,3,4,6,7 and 9 because they only played the Sharkies once

You could say that, but take out 1 of their wins against a bottom 8 team and add a loss to the sharks and 4 drops to 5, 7 drops to 8 and 9 may drop to 10. Doesn't really change much

Why would last year's results impact on whether they were good teams this year?

Penrith were far and away the best team. Sharks are the only top 8 team to not play them twice. Sounds like a massive benefit.

The Sharks first played the Titans in round 11 when they had 3 wins and were sitting in 14th place. Nobody thought they were a good team.

Manly were clearly not the same team as last year

Having to play the sharks twice didn't impact on their position. The fact that they were shit teams is what decided their position.

Whoever looks at the previous years results to assess a draw at the conclusion of the following season is an idiot.

You are right that when the draw came out it looked tougher than what it turned out to be, no one is saying the sharks were given preferential treatment or anything like that.

As it turned out though, their draw was an absolute dream, that is irrefutable.

I'm gathering you aren't aware of the previous two years where the narrative about the Sharks was that they were not beating any top 8 sides? And they were including the top 8 teams from the previous year.
This is why Tiger Shark brought it up. Now they have beaten top 8 sides this year the narrative changes to any easy draw.
Hence why last years top 8 teams were brought up.
Get it?

In 2020 they literally did not win a single game in 9 attempts against a team that finished in the top 8 that year and they still finished 8th. That's not a narrative, it's a fact.

In 2021 they did slightly better with a 2-8 record against top 8 sides, one of which was Penrith where I assume they rested all their players. That was another easy draw by the way as that means they played 14 games against bottom 8 teams which is the maximum given the sharks were one of them and can't play themselves. That's also not a narrative, just another fact.

I don't think anyone would argue that the sharks were not a much improved team in 2022 compared to those 2 seasons, just not the 2nd best team. When they were forced to play a top 8 team on 9 occasions they got their fair share of wins with a record of 4-5. The teams placed 4, 5, 6 and 7 had a similar win/loss ratio against top 8 sides but had to play at least 3 more of those games. That's another fact.

No I don't remember that narrative, nor do I care.

locky wrote about how it wasn't an easy draw at the start of the year, which wasn't relevant to anything in the post he responded to, or any of mine.

As valheru said, nobody is saying that the NRL deliberately gave you an easy draw, but the end result is that you had an easy draw.

Now they have beaten top 8 sides this year the narrative changes to any easy draw.

Umm you won 4 games against top 8 sides. 4. The Dragons and Bulldogs won 3 games against top 8 sides. Dragons almost as good as the Sharks.
