So is he deffinently going??

I hope not as I feel Daniel had more to offer the Eels. Simply cannot understand how you nature a young hooker into first grade as a Teenager and then throw all that development out the door.

Would like to see his win loss record in 1st grade. I dare say it would be a lot better than 50% wins.

Anyway I will admit Hooker has probably been one of our most strongest positions on the field since Smith has been at the club, so I guess you just have to back his judgement!!

hooker is a position that demands great creativity and speed in the modern game!

how can you say that when Casey has done so well up there, that he played himself into origin contention?

Casey did better than he did down here. He just never seemed to want to be at Parramatta. He is much like a John Plath for the Broncos now - can play where ever they need him to. Casey was in Origin contenntion in much the same way that the majority of the players at the Broncos are- because of Bennett. Nothing against Casey however I don't think he is quite up to Origin standard just yet.

Stuart Kelly moved up there and took ages to settle but since he left he has gone from club captain and Origin contender at centre to a good club winger. Hell, they play DeVere ahead of him when someone is injured and Devere is definitely not a centre.

Danny will do well I hope however he may also get lost amongst the backlog of hookers and halves they have.

granted he's a good player, but he's not the kind that guides a team to premierships

qld have a severe lack of quality halves at the moment

It looks as though Bubsy may actually be going to Brisbane. Not definate but he could be moving up there in January to start with the Toowoomba Club.

Ryan and Berrigan will get the start ahead of him because they are juniors, but Brisbane appear pretty keen to have him up there. It won't be a full-time contract, but they are very interested in having a relatively experienced hooker up there "in-waiting" so to speak who can fill in for either of them if they get injured or turn out not to be ideal constant first-graders.

He should do well I think.

Look this is the scenario....out of 15 coaches through out the NRL i bet you 14 would bend over backwards for Irvine then Webster....the 1 coach that wouldn't??..i'll give you a guess who it be

i'm sure the answer is brian smith, but this might be a trick question

i know webster has red hair, but that doesn't mean he's all bad. i actually think he's quite a handy player

I don't care about the hair...i just care about the results.

He done ok but nothing to suggust he'll be a good first grade player!, he's the type of bloke who'd do well for you for a couple of weeks and then stop performing & then be back playing Reserve grade.

Daniel Irvine has alot more potential at developing his game & has already shown everyone that he can handle first grade no problems.

It's not that Irvine couldn't pass....he can pass!, just not as good from right to left as he is as good at Left to right!.

I totally agree half man! Webster went good this year when given the opportunity. He was the sole reason why our under performing forwards started going forward towards the end of the season. He has the best service out of the ruck I have seen, with probably the likes of Priddis.

He is a smart footballer and is not afraid to take the big players on. Ron I think your a tough critic when it comes to Megsy.

If we could combine Morris kicking game with Irvine's defence with Webster's ball service you would have the best damn hooker going around!!

Morris to 5/8 was the key move which got our season belatedly underway. It followed failure by Dykes and Green (when either were fit) to organise the attack and the backline. Lyon only started to see some ball when Morris was at 5/8!

With Morris out of hooker, Smith/Parra needed a replacement with quick service out of dummy half, otherwise all would have been lost. Why did he prefer Webster to Irvine or Hollingsworth (both of which had played NRL in past seasons)? I don't know. But Webster gave him/us exactly what was needed, quick passing out of the ruck, darts from dummy half, and effort in defence, even with his small stature.

Irvine and Hollingsworth could probably see the writing on the wall - they were no longer going to get into first grade ahead of Morris back at hooker, Webster as a stand by, and people like Hopkins that could switch during a game. They know they can play first grade, so they need to take their chance at another club before it is too late.

Good luck to Bubsy at Brisbane/Toowoomba, and Hollingsworth at Manly. Both capable players, but I don't think their absence will effect the quality of our squad of 25 for 2004 and beyond.

Look at the 2003 Grand Final again and you will see the effect that a good dummy-half/hooker can have on the game.

They need to be able to read the game quickly, anticipate where the defence is weak, and pick the correct option.

Bubsy is an awfully nice guy, but sadly, really lacked the edge that Parramatta needed. Good luck at Brisbane, but chances are that he will be running around in the reserves.

Hope Irvine does well.....I was at the warriors game the colonel mentioned. 11-10 we got up, what I remember is the Warriors were on a roll and bam! Irvine put a huge hit on big Joe Vagana, jolting the ball loose.....and in that one tackle winning the game for the eels.

Irvine is a great guy with a great heart.....but just lacks that something to be a great hooker. With the buys next year, I think Morris will see little time at 5/8, and that he is a 90 minute hooker, unlike Drew. So Irvines chances will be limited at best given, touch wood, Morris doesnt seem to get hurt much.
