I reckon it's about time we retire the Flano's New Signings thread after yet another dismal failure with the Doueihi debacle.

We now have a real Recruitment Manager in Anderson.

Let Flano coach and let Daniel handle negotiations from here on.

Hopefully it's more fruitful...

We get to keep Doogie, it seems, but Porter, Nado and Staines are apparently in the offing.

Doogie can have the proverbial day out, but hes not a player on the upwards trajectory. He gets injured and can have defensive lapses.

I’ve met him, he’s a bit shy with public, except dog supporters!

So he’s one for the club on a tighter budget.

Friz takes more punishment at Newcastle. He needs a few electrodes to wake up.

And try as he might, I think Hunt continues to underwhelm at Brisbane.

Why is it a debacle? Why the nonsense about dismal failure? Strong words for maybe missing out on a player who this time last year was coming off 3 ACL’S, had almost zero outside interest (except for maybe us) and was representing himself without a manager. And why blame Flanno? Anderson had his feet under the desk while this was happening…..
I get we all want a prize scalp but people need to calm down. Doueihi might have been a “nice” signing but was hardly going to transform us into a premiership contender.
Every single bit of recruitment energy needs to go into 1. Front row. And after that ———.> 2. Halves. 3. Outside backs. But honestly no point even recruiting halves or outside backs until we get some quality front rowers who can win us field position. Willie Mason is still asking where our front rowers are a decade later…..

It's not just Doueihi, there's a trail of failed signings over the last couple of seasons since we've not had a recruitment specialist in place. My point is that Flano is the coach and has been filling in with some success ie. Val, but quite a few misses with the majority being played out in the media only to leave us looking inept when we fail to secure them for whatever reason.

Now that we have a pro to handle things properly in hoping for more success in future negotiations...

I love Flanno as a coach and am fully on board with what he's doing, footy wise

I must admit I cringe slightly when he talks so freely with his media mates about recruitment stuff and players he's trying to sign though.

But... that might be a me problem. Shane obviously isn't changing... he's not bothered about, and maybe he's right? After all he's just being honest, and people love transfer rumours so he's just feeding the beast that we've made. Perhaps the point he's making with it all is: that it's just part of the game, like anything else. No point getting too excited about those little successes or those little failures, treat them both with equanimity. It's no big deal. All that really matters is the ultimate goal

Besides, Douiehi was a douche. Remember when he dropped a ball so he faked a cramp and Tyson Gamble sledged him so bad he miraculously recovered from the cramp? Embarrassing...

You seem to be missing that this was all done while Anderson was here. Zero to do with Flanno. We didn’t “miss out” on Doueihi. He wanted to stay at Tigers and was on record saying that. Smartly he looked at outside interest to get a better deal at the Tigers. That’s why he hired a manager this year after managing himself last year.
Failure at recruitment at the Dragons over the last 5-6 years has far more to do with the fact that we were a club on the nose than anything else. A good front office and a winning football team will change that very very quickly - just look at the Bull-weak-gutted-Dogs a few years back. Success in smart management being set up, old management being shown the door, and success on the field and now they’re signing whoever they want.
I’ll gladly start believing the Anderson hype once he starts delivering quality players. Let’s hope he does.
