Danny Williams' bid to have matches in France count as part of a suspension 18-match received in the NRL last season has failed.
The former Melbourne Storm forward has nine matches of his suspension remaining, and he had hoped to sign a short-term contract with a club in France to serve the remaining matches.
But NRL tribunal chairman Greg Woods has rejected the bid. If successful, his bid would have freed him to begin playing for the London Broncos in the English Super League.
Williams was suspended earlier this year for striking Wests Tigers forward Mark O'Neill during a match at Leichhardt Oval on July 17. He was released by the Storm at the end of the season.
