Darius has stated that he is making no committments beyond Wayne Bennett's tenure as Dragons coach.

He stated on NRL.com that he has only ever been coached and mentored by Bennett and is at a stage of thought that if Bennett leaves he may not be far behind him.

Thoughts?

Yes i know people might think that i have only joined the forum recently due to the success of the Mighty Red V, don't judge me.. i am a massive supporter attended more then half the games this season and went to the finals.

I am in a situation as to when 'time permits'.

Not usually a big forum person but gonna give it a crack.

He will be a sad loss. Losing the Super coach and the super player in 1 hit will be a huge blow to the red V but my man Nightingale can fill in at fullback. So can Brett Morris.

You would not want a player to stay if he is not gonna be happy.

Hopefully that won't happen and both stay at the Dragons for many years to come.

Big loss when it happens.. Im more inclined to think the Cap will force him out!
BUT, we do have options, and apart from Nightingale, there is also GOODWIN!

We will always be able to cover players.. i am more of the opinion that he still has his best years ahead of him. We have countless playes that could cover.. but can they be the player that Boyd is developing into.

I will start by saying Darius is my favorite player at the club. I do however think that this is a pretty poor thing to come out and say after all that the Dragons have done for him. I cannot see how anything positive can come from these sorts of comments, so the question begs....why say it?
We just won the comp and that should be all that anyone is talking about. Im sure Wayne has had a profound impact on a number of players in the squad but following him around and humping his leg where ever he goes seems a bit childish to me. They are men and they have to accept that life goes on and people come and go. This is the problem i have with rugby league these days and the salary cap etc. No one gives a f**k about loyalty. The majority of players run around out there for themselves and don't really care what jumper they have on. I rekon most of our squad would be just as happy winning a comp together in any other of the 15 teams in the competition (with the exception of maybe Dean Young, Hornby and a few other local juniors).
For the last four or five years I have given up caring about players. You don't support the players, you support the club and that mighty Red V. If a player wants to leave then bon voyage. I accept that the players play a huge role in the success of the club and they dedicate a lot of time to the cause but i don't think they really give a f**k who its for as long as they get their money and make a living at the end of the day. That's why semi professional sport was so good. Players used to support a club as a child and then one day grow up to play for them. They wouldn't want to leave because they only want success for that one particular club. Yeah i know there are exceptions but i'm generalizing.
Finally, Nightingale and Morris are specialist wingers in my opinion and neither would make great fullbacks. Good fullbacks- Yes, Great- No
The modern day fullback needs ball playing skills and I don't think either of these players possess a natural ball playing instinct.

He's still with the Dragons next year and will give it his all. Bennett did bring him down from BNE after he was told he was not required and as it has turned out, the club is happy to have him.

I agree that some thing need to be left behind closed doors and it's a shame in general, players aren't as loyal to their clubs however, it's refreshing when players come out a say they don't want to play for other clubs.

There isnt even anything solid in that article that suggests that Boyd will do that...

What did he say that Bennett has been his only coach... well what if Bennett decides to retire after 2011... does that mean Darius will retire...

Dont buy into the media write up rubbish... why do you think they immediatly asked Wayne about his future when we won the big one? Cant have positive stories about us floating around now can we...

I don't agree with this at all. He said he's never been coached my anyone else, which is true, and would like this to continue...obviously...Wayne is the best.

He also said "The Dragons is a great club, and I love all the guys here, so we'll see what happens."

The media are trying really hard to make it sound like they are both leaving. Wayne is 60 years old, and has done it all. What happens if he retires? Boyd hangs up the boots?

I think Wayne will see out his contract and retire at the conclusion of next season. If Boyd goes back to Brisbane he will be returning to the club that didn't want him and he has said he was upset about that.

He is a superstar, and Doust won't let him go without a fight.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Titans throwing big money Boyd's way. Rogers has retired and Campbell is considering it. According to reports Bennett sees Boyd as potentially a good five-eighth (http://www.foxsports.com.au/story/0,8659,27836853-23214,00.html?from=public_rss) plus his grandma is still at the Gold Coast, so would be a good fit.

Obviously would depend on what happens with Bennett. It would be a big sacrifice for him to commit to another term at the Dragons with is family still in Brisbane.

I don't want to see either of them go, but not much we can do about it.

Well Boyd definitely definitely doesnt bleed red & white, he isnt tied to us emotionally, but he still is bl*ddy good and we are happy to have him!

But this isnt the first time we have heard this report from Boyd, and I agree it would be better if he didnt say anything.. but I cant really blame his loyalty to Bennett since Bennett was the one who gave him the opportunity at the Dragons in the 1st place, he is like a father figure for him, plus Boyd is a long way from home.

all boyd actually said is that bennett has been the only coach he has played under, and he can't imagine playing under anyone else..

doesn't automatically mean he'll follow...

god i hate journalists..

they are only just above lawyers & used car salesmen in the grand scheme of things..

and all of them are below junkies, thieves and sharks supporters...

he lives in the gong.... thats the problem to be honest. I have nothing against the great gong, but i don't think he'll be staying down there for more than 3 years. His grandmother is in QLD and he is very close to her. I agree the titans seem the logical fit. But there will be PLENTY of clubs after him. Personally i feel he is the most important player in our team. I would like to see plenty thrown at him now to extend.

Wayne will try and convince him to stay i think. May well depend on our next coach????? Hmmm now there's a new thread!!

I tend to think he does have plenty of passion for our club. He was one of the most animated after our wins against Wests and Easts. He just doesn't like talking to the media.

Dousty, buy his grandmother a unit in the Gong for gods sake.
