Senter expects Sharks to grunt up front
Mar 11, 2004
Wests Tigers captain Darren Senter is expecting the Cronulla Sharks to use their big men in the forward pack to gain momentum when the two sides meet in Saturday's opening round double header match at Telstra Stadium.
"Theyve got a pretty big pack so I think they're going to play it up front, through the forwards," Senter says. "I am sure they are going to want their forwards to lay the platform for their backs to do the job out wide."
"They've got a new coach [and] a new assistant coach on board. They've got some quality players there. It's going to be a tough game first up."
But coach Tim Sheens has been recruiting heavily since he took charge of the club prior to the 2003 season and some kind of pay off is expected this year.
"We've signed some quality players in the off season we've got some good young blokes coming through so potentially it is the best side we've had on paper in a number of years," Senter said. "[We have signed] Scotty Sattler, we've signed Nick Graham, we've Scott Prince playing at half I think over the years weve probably struggled in that position with a quality halfback. If we can keep him fit and on the field I think he is going to do some great things for us."
Senter has spent nine seasons with the Tigers since leaving the Bulldogs and the coming season will be his sixth as captain.
"It is a privilege to captain the side and as a kid I always aspired to play first grade football," he said, "but not knowing I would captain the side for such a long time and its a real thrill for me."

Bring it on. You would have to be curious as to how this game will play out.
