David Furner arrives

On WIN TV news tonight, the focus was on the arrival in Canberra of David Furner and his family.

Don Furner Snr and all the family was at the Canberra airport to greet David.

David said he knew it was time to retire when it kept getting pointed out he was the oldest player in the team in the UK. His nickname was "poppie". He said he is really looking forward to taking up his new role as PL Coach and is so pleased he is coming "home" to the Raiders.

Coach Elliott was also interviewed regarding the draw. He said the bye in the first round, frankly, "sucks", but the club is just going to grin and bear it and get on with things. He said someone has to have the bye, but he would have preferred to have it later in the year.

It was also pointed out that the Raiders meet a range of the top teams like the Broncos, Roosters and Bulldogs during the State of Origin series. Coach Elliott claimed that this would be a great disadvantage for the Raiders too, as we would have so many players in the NSW and Queensland teams. He was speaking with a broad smile on his face the whole time, clearly with tongue in cheek.......... [Terrible thing to joke about, frankly.]

The report also noted that the club is continuing to discuss contract renewals with Clinton Schifcofske, Simon Woolfor, Ryan O'Hara and Ian Hindmarsh, but has failed to secure the signature of any of those players.

It will be the last for Woolford, however Schif is clearly good enough to continue on until end 2007 IMO. Plus we have seen that it won't hold Marshall Chalk back - he is good enough to play wing quite easily... I believe he is in the top 3 'wingers' in the club.

Good to see Furner back... the tide is turning for the Raiders.

Yeah i dont think germ will be with us after 2005, the writing is on the wall really with the captaincy issue and withers being signed.
Great to see dave back at the club

I have noticed in some other forums, they have started to really write us off, one tosser even had us taking the spoon next year. Its likely it will be the same with the media, hopefully it will provide a good motivational tool. I have a good feeling about next year, i just hope the right players are used in the right positions (im referring to 7,6,9,17).

GO THE RAIDERS!

I just watched Elliott again on the WIN TV News late night edition.... he makes the most ridiculous comments sometimes... no wonder we are the subject of ridicule. Like the comment he made last year about how we were going to the Grand Final when we were struggling to make the 8....... He ought to think about his credibility before he shoots his mouth off in stupid ways.

dude, tons of ppl have the Raiders for the wooden spoon. there's a couple of threads in the NRL forum, one a poll called like "wooden spoon" (and we got a LOT of votes, i think second most to Souths), and the other called "2005 NRL ladder positions", where the same thing happened - heaps of ppl putting Raiders down the bottom. it seriously doesn't bother me one bit tho, don know why, i'm usually not good with criticism.

Wrong.

He said we still had a CHANCE to be in the Grand Final, which isn't the same thing as GOING to the Grand Final.

What coach would say "Yeah, we're not going to make the Grand Final so we may as well just give up now" :?:

IBG... OK, I may have the exact words wrong, but as you know, at the time, the comment was widely derided as it was ridiculous. You don't have to say, we still have a chance of winning the premiership when you are struggling to even make the 8. We have had this debate at length before. The obvious thing to do is say, "we will take this week by week and see how it goes". Elliott says such ridiculous stuff sometimes. I am increasingly despairing about him. If we win the Premiership next year, I will eat my words and admit I am not worthy... but at the moment..........

It isn't even a case of you loving your club too much greeneyed. You are just way to serious sometimes. Like when you left the boards as a protest because of that knob from the Knights forum. Just lighten up a bit buddy. ;-)

He just cracked a little joke. If you didn't find it funny, that's fine. But it isn't a "ridiculous and disgraceful comment to make"

Raider Azz... I am serious sometimes, sure. It is because I am passionate about my club. I left the boards for good reason... I wish I could remember it now...

Anyway... I don't think I deserve being ridiculed because I take my club seriously. Winning clubs do anything they can to win. I am not sure our club is, this is what worries me.

that's why he made the wisecrack about us not having any players in Origin? that was a joke, i know, but the Raiders were the butt of it. and that's not on.

How nice. Did he have flowers as well? I hope he pays the same courtousy to Jason Smith and Matt Adamson.

I like Dave Furner, he was a good forward and a passionate player. I am not happy about the boys club that is in place at the Raiders though.
