On WIN TV news tonight, the focus was on the arrival in Canberra of David Furner and his family.
Don Furner Snr and all the family was at the Canberra airport to greet David.
David said he knew it was time to retire when it kept getting pointed out he was the oldest player in the team in the UK. His nickname was "poppie". He said he is really looking forward to taking up his new role as PL Coach and is so pleased he is coming "home" to the Raiders.
Coach Elliott was also interviewed regarding the draw. He said the bye in the first round, frankly, "sucks", but the club is just going to grin and bear it and get on with things. He said someone has to have the bye, but he would have preferred to have it later in the year.
It was also pointed out that the Raiders meet a range of the top teams like the Broncos, Roosters and Bulldogs during the State of Origin series. Coach Elliott claimed that this would be a great disadvantage for the Raiders too, as we would have so many players in the NSW and Queensland teams. He was speaking with a broad smile on his face the whole time, clearly with tongue in cheek.......... [Terrible thing to joke about, frankly.]
The report also noted that the club is continuing to discuss contract renewals with Clinton Schifcofske, Simon Woolfor, Ryan O'Hara and Ian Hindmarsh, but has failed to secure the signature of any of those players.
