He kind of perfectly displayed why I think the wing position is undervalued. Big strong capable wingers would have finished those 6 chances. Thats not to say each instance was a glaring obvious f-up by wolfy, no it kind of just seemed like it wasn't really on or like you said the D was good or whatever, you can't compare what a good player would have done in those specific circumstances but a look at the plays finished by the gifted outside backs certainly suggests they well could have scored on those chances that wolfman blundered. They would have caught the ball from lyon, taken the bump and found a way to get it down, because thats what they do.
And this skill is so valuable, the difference between the team scoring and not as williams showed. Wingers like williams, therefore in the modern nrl, are entirely without value. The era of the small weak white guy with no skill thats a bit quick standing out on the wing is over. The defense is like that now, thats what it is, so catching under pressure, taking big hits and still getting the ball down in tough circumstances (maybe upside down flying out wide of the corner post with a big lummox all over you) is what the position calls for.
