Defensive Concept

All the emphasis has been placed around attack and what exactly we can do with the ball in our hands. But what about defence? Realise the AI will allign most plays and we would just nominate the closest player/s to effect a tackle but what if we could entertain a different method.
Users could be called upon to constantly monitor their team in retreating the 10 successfully at the completion of every tackle in the set of 6.
Perhaps gently tapping an used button to get all players to retreat back behind the ref. This would be an easy task in the early stages of the game gradually getting more demanding as fatigue sets in etc.......
I think this would keep things interesting when players are asked to defend.
What are everyone elses/ Mario's thoughts on a defensive concept such as above?

I think this has the makings of a good idea, at least that way if you get pinged for offside (and surely it won't be the touchy that makes the call!!!!) it would be your own fault. There is nothing more frustrating than getting penalised for a fault the AI makes!!

Im not to sure guys i think it could get a bit to pedantic and even annoying at times tapping a button after every tackle, especially in a close game.

I agree with Sheep, I think it would soon get annoying. I think having limited control of your teams current defensive attitude and formation would be a good idea. Things like pressing a button to call the fullback up close behind the line if expecting a short kick, and pressing the same button sends him back deep. Maybe a button to set the agressiveness of your computer controlled team-mates when tackling. Also things like condensing or stretching the defensive line on the fly.

Options like these would greatly enhance and add more depth to the defense aspect of the game i believe.

Having to get your team back onside? I can't think of anything worse, it would be the most annoying feature EVER. It would be comparable to having to ensure your tackled player was facing goal-goal before he played the ball or something! it would drive you nuts!

I am all for being able to maybe alter defensive formations, sliding, compressed, man to man, goal-line. I hope they don't have defense as an afterthought sort of addition as I always enjoy defense as much as attack in football games.
