actually in a positive way this time.

In the RLW he comments that the reports of Parra paying Tahu $400k a year are way over what he is actually going to get and along with the other signings the reported salaries have been too high.

He kinda ruins it in the end saying it's just other clubs who missed out on these players to please their boards and fans they claim Parra paid over the odds for them.

Fair enough - he has enemies.

I think it's part of the deal that salaries are overstated in the press. Ray Price reckoned he would have loved to have recieved the money that he was 'getting' in the papers!

Seems reasonable. I don't see why we shouldn't believe him. He's more credible than some journalist tossing up a random figure.

Straight from the horses mouth. I'll believe him over some journalist inspired by the Hadley brigade.

Yes. Yes he is.

I've had trouble believing anything Denis says since he tried to sell us off to the Panthers and Tigers. Also, he makes some remarkably stupid statements in the name of ticket sales sometimes.
And the excuse that Crusher was let go because of the pending increase in Pokie taxes just didn't wear with me.

You didn't need to be a rocket scientist to work out the media was over inflating player salaries.

They have been doing it for years!!

According to the big league this week

Tahu: $320,000
Riddell: $270,000
Morrison: $300,000
Stringer: $220,000

Not as bad as some reports and backs up Dennis' claims that the reported 400K for Tahu and 350K for Riddell are way too high.

Little concerned about Stringer tho I had him pegged at 150-175K

but only other teams in the story

Warriors
$400,000 for Price
$400,000 for Wiki

Manly
$385,000 for Kite
$300,000 for Kennedy

Roosters
$250,000 for Monaghan

Souths
$240,000 for Hegarty

Cowboys
$220,000 for Thurston
$220,000 for C.Webb

Saw that article and if those figures are true Manly must be the dumbest club on the planet; $385k for a one-season wonder and $300k for a has-been. And the media wants to knock us for bringing in quality!!!

Ouch! $385K for Kite... #-o

I actually think player-managers  have a big hand in the media over-reporting contract values. It's in their collective interest (as Mr 15%ers) to have high contract talk bandied about as much as possible.

I think all those players contracts are being exagerrated. That's a million dollars we had under the cap, I doubt we'd be under by that much.

Just because they spent a million dollars doesn't mean they need to be a million dollars under the cap.

Let's say they were 400,000 under the cap BEFORE Lyon left they then are 750,000 under the cap and spend 1.1 million on new players.

But there are bound to be some players gone so effectivly if Morrison is on 300,000 but Hopkins leaves and he was on 150,000 then Parra only need to find 150,000 extra.

It's the same thing though. Player's contracts such as Lee Hopkins and Craig Stapleton would not be considered for next year as part of the cap. I'm talking about being a million dollars under based on players contracted for next yr.
