Derrick Rose out for the season

Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose will miss the rest of the season after undergoing knee surgery Monday, the team announced.

The 2010-11 league MVP had the medial meniscus repaired in his right knee at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago.

The surgery was to be performed by Dr. Brian Cole, the man who performed the ACL surgery on Rose's left knee in May 2012.

Heading into the procedure, there appeared to be two options for repairing Rose's knee. He could either have had the meniscus, or a portion of it, removed and been back on the floor in a matter of weeks. Having the meniscus re-attached, which appears to be the route Rose and the Bulls took, sidelines him four to six months.

While the first procedure would have put him back on the court sooner, many players who have had that procedure, including Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade, say that it causes more problems later in a player's career.

It appears that with the 25-year-old Rose the organization chose to take the longer approach with the hope that he can return to being the same player before his first knee injury.

Do the Bulls hold the fort or blow it up and go for the tank?

Damn, this sucks, as a fan you want to see the best and I thought rose was, in the last couple of games getting back to the level where he was before, where we've become accustomed to, he was playing like Derrick Rose again.
I think the bulls should just gut the roster until they're bad, lottery bad. Fans will still fill that arena, they've got a great fan base. But as a basketball fan this really sucks.

Disappointing news to wake up to.. Least they didn't say he's out indefinitely, but ruled him out for the season.

It's hard for them to tank given their contracts and roster. Would almost defeat the purpose for when Rose returns.

They should blow it up and get a top pick, they aren't going anywhere with this roster even with Rose

Trade deng and start losing. Losing could be a problem though, the eastern conference is baaaad this year.

The east sucks.

They could tank and still get the 8 seed.

They need to get rid of Deng and Noah, see what they can get back for them in terms of young players/picks and then try to a top pick but you guys may be right, the east is that bad that they might not be able to tank

Aside from Miami & Indiana, that seems to be the strategy of the 13 other teams in the East.

If this was my NBA 2K team.. id trade them all for cheap players, simulate the season finish last and pick up Wiggins in the draft, sign Lebron and go on to win 8 championships in a row.. lolz.
