A bit from the Herald today:
There's no doubting Hasler's ability - he turned a basket case into premiers. But constant boardroom struggles have strained his relationship with the club and it's not unimaginable for the master coach to be holding another club's clipboard in 2012. Expect club legend Geoff Toovey, or Ivan Cleary, to take over the reins if that should happen.

What do people think?
We don't traditionally keep coaches around, this is the longest single stint for a coach in the club's history.
I don't think scraping in to the finals and getting flogged will be good enough, I think we will be much better than that though so he will be safe if he wants to stay on.
Must admit I am looking forward to the day Toovey is in charge, can already feel the hate haha.

As much as I love Des and Tooves, Cleary would IMO be the best long-term option.

I'm looking forward to more of Dessie. I like his style, I like the respect the players have for him. Every club gets a 4 year window if they plan correctly, Des won a comp, he has done the job. I'm sure Tooves would be a good coach as well but Manly aren't the kind of club that jumps the shark to punt premiership winning coaches.

Manly are about to enter a season with board certainty, this can only help Des and his team.

Now is a new era, young guys like Hopoate, Foran, Whare and Cherry-Evans are coming through in key positions, this gives the team enthusiasm.

B Stewart is back, the class of Lyon is still there. There is nothing soft about our forwards and I'm expecting a watershed year from Jason King, leading the way and leading in Blues Origin colours. Watmough and G Stewart should return to full fitness and top form. Rodney looked very good last year, hopefully he fully recovers from injury. Matty Ballin is set for his best ever season after last years top level experience. Matai will be raring to go upon his return and Brent Kite has no excuses, he should be absolutely primed for a massive year.

Our forwards should go forward so our young halves should have all the opportunities to develop a super combination at the top level. They showed great awareness in the u20's as a partnership, I don't think Dessie will be looking for excuses, he wants and expects the mailman to deliver.

We have been overlooked as title contenders paying $21. That's a bonus. I reckon we will finally start a season with a bang, from there the variable of origin and the injury minefield are to be navigated. We should be semifinal bound yet again.

Letting go of Des would be an enormous error. He's an excellent coach and fiercly passionate about the club.

Having said that I do like Cleary as a coach as well, and he's doing a good job at the Warriors, but I wouldn't trade Dessie for anyone other than Wayne Bennett. And even then, Benny wouldn't love Manly like our Dessie, so I don't know how I'd feel about that either.

Dessie or nobody.

I'm not even interested in discussing other coaches. Dessie's leadership and coaching has contributed hugely to the resurrection of the club. A different coach isn't even fathomable.
