Luke Burt

Turnstyle as a last line of defence. Still loses the ball when heavily smashed (its not the first time hes cost us simple trys to the opposition and wont be the last). Poor Goal Kicking. Dissapointing, i actually thought he was improving and all we have is another Hodgson. We still need a goal kicker and we can minimise his defensive liability so next week stick him on the wing for @#$ sake (even though Vaealiki is slow for a fullback, hes good under the high ball being an ex winger and isnt usually a turnstyle (excuse the NZ game last year)

Rating 3/10

Wise Kativerata

Poor mans Tuquiri/Sailor clone. Reminds me of Epa Navale. Will dissappear in like Big EPA too. Bought becauses hes big and strong, pity his handling and positional defence is premier league level err sorry insult ..more like Jim Beam cup quaility.

Rating 3/10

Jamie Lyon

Quiet game. Not what is expected of an international. However, is by far our best back. His poor game i'm sure was attributed to the poor defence by his team mates. Will be better next week.

Rating 5/10

Matt Petersen

Hes the sort of player you have a love hate relationship with. Damn he knows how to find the tryline but #@$%% his defence and ocassional brain explosions kill you. I get the feeling he may never fix his weaknesses and opposition are obviously targetting him. I think whilst we are lacking creativity and thus need some guys which a knack of scoring tries - stick him on the other wing.

Rating 4.5/10

Eric Grothe

Fantastic, hard to bring down. Makes more yards than the soft @#$ Vella. Actually can be replace Vella with Grothe at prop - h'ell make more meters and i'm sure his defence is certainly be better. Mortgage on the wing spot with his performance. Also potentially better centre than Petersen if Smith has gone out of favour with Vaealiki.

7.5/10

Daniel Wagon

Past his used by date. Seriously when was the last time you said..damn Wags had a good game. I think teammates must be still putting super glue on his hands - funny how it doesnt help his handling though. Hes always knocking balls on.

At least he made some tackles tonight , earns him some points. Lets stick him on the interchange bench. Hes not really up to starting.

Rating 5/10

Adam Dykes

We need him in the side. Didnt make any major defensive errors and created ALL our attack. Please can we have Witt @ Half and Dykes @ 5/8?? Runs risk of being extra targetted as we are one dimensional, dummy half running with only Dykes drifting accross field. Dykes needs to take control for the full 80 mins (though granted was hard in the 1st half as we have such little ball). Good job Dykes.

Rating 7/10

Corey Pearson

Tried hard. Gave away a cheap try - crap teams always do this. We need to work on this. Is a danger when he has the ball. Put him on the interchange and wait till opposition tires - dont think hes up to starting.

Rating 5.5/10

John Morris

Always solid. But thats it..Solid. Does he have any talent..because we are all waiting to see it. Needs to offer the team more.

Rating 6/10

Michael Vella

THANK GOD HE IS OFF CONTRACT SOON. Last 2 yrs watching him have been AGONY. Unless he is willing to take 75k a season - punt him. Lacks heart. Dead weight, imagine the juniors we can sign with the $$$ he is on.

Rating 2/10

Nathan Hindmarsh

Hindmarsh will always be in my side. Quiet game however. Needs to inject himself more when team is struggling - not enough leadership quality - we need him to fire the team up like a Ben Kennedy or Gorden Tallis of old. He will be better next week.

Rating 6/10

Nathan Cayless

Tried hard. I like him, has heart. Got frustrated and gave away too many penalties. He is one of the few in our side which has leadership quality - actually the only one. Thats one of our major problems.

Hes one of the only real hardmen we have.

Rating 6.5/10

Lee Hopkins

Poor game. Poor handling. However, must stay in the team somewhere. He has heart and passion.

Rating 5/10

David Vaeliki

Another John Morris. Usually solid, but thats it. Due to our lack of quality centres i guess he can fight it out with the other 3/4's for that position. Versatile to play many positions - i'm sick of doormats at Fullback so maybe until Ashley Graham comes back he can defend at the back.

Rating 5.5/10

Craig Stapleton

Didnt impress. Back to first divvy. Lets try Kaufusi / Peek on the bench in his place.

Rating 4.5/10

Aaron Cannings

MUST replace Vella. At least he gets past the advantage line. Has handling was bad - but so was all the other EELS forwards.

Eric Grothe

I knew i forgot someone! Had the Big League team list and peeky withdrew so i couldnt remember Armit. He seemed solid, deserves another chance next week.

Ron, i was probably being a bit harsh on Stapleton. But i'm sick of players that offer little overall to the team. As far as i'm concerned the guys who are not part of our core stars (Cayless, Hindmarsh etc)

I think we really struggle to score points, lacking gamebreakers. I'm glad we play the Broncos next as they have problems in this department too so were a chance in that match.

Funny enough im feeling very confident against the Broncos aswell :?

We definately need game breakers & variety.....how can a player like Veaeliki be on the bench??....wouldn't Witt or Thorman be more Logical?.

im a bit confident about Brisbane but just worried about the sandtrap again and if the same thing happens to another player like Graham *shivers*either that or Armit busts his knee again...i reckon Armit will make rep sides one day

Grothe 7.5/10? Were you even there? He played f*cking shithouse...I didn't see him do anything worthwild for the whole match.

Petterson is a joke and should be in 1st Div next week along with Burt,Cayless and Vella.

Put Vaealki at fullback at least he has some size too him...Cannings wasn't great but better then Vella.

I don't think i even saw Jamie Lyon touch the ball....F*ck Wagon how in the hell does he made the team simply amazes me.

Nah Grothe done alright for us in a shit house side....he always made metres for us when running the ball & showed great enthusiasm in running the ball.

He done well.....the rest i agree.

Im starting to think all these people who wrote us off this year could be right even after one game.

Maybe i was too hard on Grothe but im pretty pissed off after going out there and seeing us belted like that....What an utter disgrace.

Wise Crapativa shouldn't be allowed to wear a Eels Jersey again

i thought Grothe was our best player on the field i have to say at least he played with some heart even when all was lost
and for Burt when Graham comes back shove Burt to the wing

Very good appraisal of the players, Varion, especially your callon Hindmarsh. This is the year he needs to step up and REALLY be a forward leader. Cayless at least does that, but a prfessional foul leaves whoincharge of the pack? Other teams have players whowill automatically step up to that role (Tallis and BK are great examples, but in the earlier game Chris Beattie and John Skandalis played that role toperfection as well). I think BS is relying on Hindy/Wags/Vella todo that, but they don't. Hindy at least has talent, and a history of having a dig. But looking at himtonight, I get the impression that he is thinking along the lines of "I'm not busting my clacker in hopeless games anymore. I'm off contract, and a change to a topline club might be the best thing forme. Brisbane have ageing forwards that willfree upsome $, and Ian is loving it down in the capital..."

Yeah, sends a shiver, doesn't it. By my reckoning, Hindy and Killer are both off contract. I'll bet that Hindy leaves unless we are in the top 8 mid season.

a few comments from a Broncos supporter on the above

Kativerata - would seem only bought as back-up this year, is not a Sailor/Tuquiri clone and never will be cause he stops at the defensive line whereas Sailor/Tuquiri try to run thru it (unfortunately the same as chief Devere - but Chief has a few other strings to his bow) .... should really never get a game unless mega injuries

Lyon - when was the last time he won a game for your team ? or did something outstanding to match his status as an international and what he is being paid ? i reckon he is pretty over-rated, he looks great when your team is doing the flogging but fades out of games far too often .... i don't mean to be too harsh on him .... just an opinion

Pearson - was ok tonight, but just ok

Vella - is terrible, you are all correct

Cannings - is a great buy

such high turnover at the club, but with the salary cap your really only going to get as much as you get rid of ..... clearly you have to have some amount of depth but you also have to be prepared to let your youngsters be the back-up or they never get a game

Parra don't seem to be content letting their youngsters be the backups/fill-ins .... like was said above, Parra buy a lot of fringe first-graders and it really doesn't make a lot of sense

so many players out of position tonight and you do need Witt on the field

try and remember guys that its only game 1 - start calling for peoples heads in about 6 weeks time if it doesn't improve

I think you should throw the form out the window from the game tonight - everything went right for the Dogs that possibly could have and everything went wrong for the Eels

I only came here to guage the reaction, cause I tipped the Eels :?

chin up folks

Oink !

Seems as though Hindy has a problem with his hand, and needs scans tomorrow to check damage. Could be bad news, and could be why he ended up having a solid - but not his usually high standard - game tonight.

Jamie Lyon's missed tackels resulted in the Dogs first two tries.

His defence was as bad as everyone elses.

Jamies performance was just pathetic....he didn't nothing in attack and got caught out in defense.....he isn't the best centre in the game anymore IMO.
