Diehard goss......

I was talkin to my spies the other day,and they told me some interesting news. That there was/has been a bust up of sorts within the ranks of the Diehards involving badges being handed back, and people not going etc.

The reason being that parts of the Diehards were peeved that the bus leaves the ground before the big game and they wanted to watch the firsts play.My spies say that they wanted to watch the blokes that they have supported for years play first grade and that Waitey.....(you know who you are ;-) )and his band of twisted sisters refuse to stay and watch first grade.

I was hoping someone who is part of the diehards could explain to me how many badges have been given back(if any at all)and are there any plans to cater for the blokes who want to watch the Maggies who go on to play first grade......

The blokes who gave me this goss are usually spot on and Id be interested to see if this was the true and hear your slant on it.

Cheers.

Yeah I knew that too,but I didnt know that there had been people leaving/not showing up because of it.

I have seen Yappy and his toothless bretheren ;-) leave at Cambo plenty of times......but I didnt know ther were issues with the bus,and people chucking the whole concept in.....which I think is a shame.

Cheers.

Who are the diehards ? What do they do ?

Waitey goes around the streets of Cambo and feeds the poor and underpriveleged. He also takes them fo the footy where they go madly for the Maggies, following them all over the place.

Its wonderful to give people who wouldnt normally go to the footy the chance to get a little enjoyment out of life....

;-)

Don't know too much about it. I just drive the bus on occaisions. Chris wants to watch the NRL games, but the issue isn't about the Tiges as far as I know. More games where we're away at non Tiger's games. Not many of us want to watch Canberra v Broncos. If Chris has handed in his card over it that's a shame, but really when 8 people want to go home and 1 or two don't what can you do.

BELIEVE IT OR NOT. Some are UNI students but Die hards are usually those people that you see at the ground that hang around in a group of around 6-8 of them and they usually wear old Magpie jerseys with VICTA emblazed across the front or an old white Wests jersey with No.7 on the back supporting Greg Cox or someone like that. Alternatively you may see some of the old Balmain ones with Philips across them. And some of these supporters say silly things like:"Balmain forever Wests never"

So basically yappy, you lot don't like rugby league? Just the magpies? Otherwise I can't work out why you wouldn't stay.

They ain't fans of the Wests Tigers Balmain Boy. Its quite simple. They refuse to watch or support the Joint-Venture. They continue to follow Western Suburbs Magpies in the Juniors and lower grades, but will not have anything to do with the Joint-Venture first Grade side. It's Magpies or nothing so to speak in their eyes. I don't necessarily agree with it, but however i do respect their stance and passion for the club.

Although i must say, it was great to see a few of the Diehards there on sunday, Bazza and the boys decked out in their Magpie gear supporting Wests Tigers. they even got a 'Wests' chant going. Beautiful. Slowly but surely, with time being the healer and success being the motivator, the Joint-Venture will continue to win back lost fans.

Yeah....Damn right! These guys just want to be recognised as eccentric diehards!!
Deep down some of them have more than just a passing interest in WT.
Because they cannot ignore the fact that the Team is called 'Wests'.Same way as the Balmain supporters cannot ignore the fact that we are the Tigers.
But in saying this, the Magpie supporters myself included will always find it a bit difficult to chant 'TIGERS,TIGERS' in the same way as the Balmain supporters will always find it hard to call the team 'WESTS'.
And I know this for a fact. How you may ask??? Easy I ask almost everyone that gets in my cab in the Balmain and inner west area. And I am
yet to meet a Balmain supporter refer to the team as Wests. :?

Yes...fair enough Brook, but one must admit there will always be a minority.
Im sure if you did a survey you would find that Balmain people call it the Tigers and Magpie people Wests. ;-)

I wouldn't go talking about what other people want to be recognised as mate - you just end up looking like a tool.

Some folks choose to follow the JV, some folks don't. It's funny that those that do feel so threatened that they feel the need to belittle those that don't, but would cry like babies if the old 'turncoat' chestnut was thrown at them. Really I thought we were all pretty much over this BS, but apparently not. If choosing to continue to follow the same football team I have always followed is eccentric, then so be it, I certainly don't set out to be recognised as such.

BB, yeah I love league, but I'm only really passionate about the Mighty Magpies. I watch the NRL. Love watching Penrith and the Storm - just like the way they play and have some of my current faves like Lang, Clinton, Hill and Orford. I don't support any team in the NRL but take an interest in the Tigers for obvious reasons. I also go and watch Matthews and Ball, so although it is the Magpies I must be some sort of League tragic eh?

Not really a shot at you Yappy, I don't doubt your passion for the game - I know you watch Matthews and Ball, and I don't so who am I to talk. I understand leaving before the JV if you hate it that much, but you said you left before Brisbane and Canberra? Just surprised you wouldn't stay is all.

More games where we're away at non Tiger's games. Not many of us want to watch Canberra v Broncos.

Turn it up Max  Western Suburbs were still competiting in the 1st Grade competition when the Super League fiasco was happening. I resent the fact you accuse Watiey of embracing Super League. We all know that it ruined the game and led to the murder of both these club's. Watiey did not state he supports or has a vested interest in those two sides, although said he enjoys watching their brand of football, and who doesn't? its great and exciting to watch.

I'm the same Brook - it's Wests for the team, Tigers for the chant ... although it's more to do with 2 syllables than sounding like Terry Hill for me

The reason why they leave before first grade is because they are the few slightly clever Western Suburbs fans, you usually get to watch 2 games of football with no queues at the bar, plenty of room and games where the players play with pride and desire. Something lacking from about 95% of the NRL players. No traffic getting home..... what more could you want ;-) ..... except maybe to have been born a Balmain fan
