Since when did former criminal lawyers become the go to men for defamation law?

Not sure singo and ray's crew (and resources) would be shaking in their boots.
good point, next he will have Max Markson as his agent.
seems to be a publicity stunt

Out of your depth Bigfella. The lawyer refers the case to a QC (Senior Council these days) like Stuart Littlemore or Tom Hughes. It doesn't matter to Murphy that he's a part timer and it's not his field. He'll gladly take the instructions and the fees that go with it.

Spags obviously misses the spotlight. He could have instructed a cheaper and more experience lawyer, but chose the only celebrity lawyer we have ? Ego much ?

Thanks for the patronising two-bit overview. Have you been taking smug lessons from Bartman?

Firstly, using a solicitor who doesn't specialise is very dangerous, as Hadley and 2GB will have the top barristers AND the top firms stitched up. The solicitor still plays a very important role.

But the point I was really making is that this is nowhere near being litigation yet. it is really Murphy promoting the "litigation" (and himself) at this stage. Very bizzare because if you are really concerned about bad publicity, suing for defamation just rehashes the whole incident. Murphy is effectively starting a separate little media fight about the conflict between the two. There's no real basis to say he has been instructed yet. And they can't issue proceedings until they issue a concerns notice complying with the Defamation Act anyway - and there's no suggestion that has been done yet.

Pot, kettle, black ?

Yes I said he could have gone with a experinced firm, rather than the celebrity-lawyer-gets-me-the-press-I-crave merkin.

Agree on that too. It's just all hot air right now. He'll need a second mortgage on the house just to run it.

Yes defamation cases can be very expensive to run unless you are using other people's money to run them.

Ego? .... or just first piss in a pissing contest?

Murphy obviously has a public profile - and tweats (which is hilarious in itself) ... so far it looks like it might just be a campaign to try and scare hadley by putting threats out in hte public and trying to get support ..... wouldn't surprise me if it never went anywhere ...... is Roy really gonna foot the bill for something like this that he may well lose? - if he could use club money to fund it maybe it'd happen, but surely he wouldn't try that given past events

edit: just saw bigfella's post .... yeah agree - it might all just be hot air released in public

Given the only press he ever gets is bad (and driven by his opponents) I can't see how Spags is a self-promoting media whore.

I think this employment of Chris Murphy is intended to attack Hadley where it hurts - his media profile.

Leagues Club media release on the Parra Leagues Club Website. (I can't seem to post the link maybe someone else could edit this below?)

parraleagues.com.au/default.aspx?id=34

It confirms the 7 PLC Directors which does not include Roy Spagnolo.
For Roy to now get on the PLC Board EGS would need to resign too.

Well mate, with the shenanigans that some have been carrying on with lately, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if he did.

I thought EGS did step down from the PLC board. I asked him a few days ago on twitter and that's what he said.
