When I was younger my mates judged people by the music they listen too, ie if you liked culture club like millers you were gay fo sho.

Do you do this?

Do you really think the music a person listens too, tells you something about them?

What are the different pigeon holes?

How does one get judged when they don't listen to the stuff?

I guess when I was at school it happened quite a lot. Usually your musical tastes seem to determine, or at least influence, who you were friends with. Quite sad really.

I get alot of flack for being white and listening to hip hop, and also not listening to commercial hip hop. But I dont judge people, shit if u like rock, then u like rock. Ill just say if I DONT like it. I dont try and force people into listening mine so yeah. 1.

i judge people pretty severely.

if a dude likes pop = gay
if a dude likes techno = drug addict and usually gay
if a dude likes commercial/club rap= wanker (im looking at you pepstar)
if a dude likes heavy/death metal = pretty depressed and more times than not, a goth
if a girl likes rock = either an avril lavigne wannabe or ugly, usually both

if a dude likes rock = champion but usually thinks hes the be all and end all when it comes to music

i dont give in to stereo types btw

I think in a way, wat music a person likes does tell you something about them, but i don't judge people by wat music they like. Everyone has different tastes and that's why the music industry is so big as there are different singers/bands in all genres.
In my group of friends we yeah do the whole songs i like are better than the songs you like. Apparently at the moment it's ' cool' to like RnB and hip hop. I personally don't like them but some songs are alrite.

Now can people explain this foreign language to me.

Pop = ? Timberwolf, Spice Girls? Is the pop for teeny-bopper?
Techno = ? Bass boom boom stuff?
I know what rap is, talking really bad english fast with music, no?
I presume heavy metal is same as it was. Wear black listen loud, loads of guitar.
Rock? Define?
I do like classical music in the background very occasionally whilst working at home.

So I need a pigeon hole, I do not buy music. I don't watch music videos, I don't listen to music on the radio.
Music however is unavoidable, I do hear it, see bands (as they are the pub I am etc) but basically I just never feel the urge to put the radio on or a CD or buy a concert ticket or watch HoeTV and it is not something I ever do when alone.

Only when blokes DON'T listen to any music at all do I judge them.

Merely because I don't understand them...

Thats the stuff where some black dudes take a perfectly good 80s tune, add fake music to it, and poison it with ridiculous lyrics about how they are bad-ass mo-fos and how they give it to their bitches.

Then they make a music video of themselves driving around in a late model BMW or Mercedes with chicks that make Flo-Jo look like Ally McBeal.

Disgusting stuff...

I think you'll find goths rarely listen to 'metal'. They're more into the industrial/electronic side of things. They favourite bands will 99% be NIN, Marilyn Manson, Jerk, Rammstein, etc....

Oops I just pigeon holed

Anyway, pretty much no one in my social circles listens to the same stuff I do, so I do not pigeon-hole them. Why just last week I was being barraged for my dislike of Nirvana... But wait, maybe I will generalise. Most Nirvana fans these days are kids who have been told what to like by the NME, Rolling Stone etc... Of course there are real Nirvana fans who have reached puberty, but they are less irritating and don't give a toss if I don't like Nirvana.

I suppose it's somewhat frustrating to hear that people like "whatever's on the radio". WHAT?! Although I am a big music fan and close to all of my disposable income goes towards aural pleasures how can someone not take a personal satisfaction from different types of music. There's some great stuff out there and quite stimulating material.

My better half likes a lot of bands that I do and I would consider us to have similar musical tastes, however, she likes some 'artists' I consider putrid like Linkin Park, but we all have our guilty pleasures. Unless some fool comes up to me and says (pretend I'm wearing a shirt of the band in my avatar Gospel of the Horns) "who are they? Death metal shit? all rar rar I hate everything, gonna kill people, hail satan. Linkin Park is the best!" then I will start to pigeon hole. Note: the above scenario has never happened.

So this has been quite a long post that basically comes to the conclusion of I dunno, whatever...

I'd tend to pigeonhole those trendwhores I see everywhere in Sydney these days. We need more individuality.
