Gutherson is another example of a guy who has gone backwards as a leader. I thought his decision making in the last month was embarrassing. He could still step up but he seems to have lost respect of the playing group as captain.

The captain of a club should never be seen leaving his contact negotiations go the way his did. The only thing he could do was blame his agent to save face but that is horrid leadership in itself throw your agent under the bus.

Wasnt Moses also asked to have a look around? (club making a call to get rid of him as you put it)
We wanted to get rid of one of them at least didnt we?
I'd say we preferred to get rid of Norman, and he wouldn't have been retained if we were stuck with him this year. As for why we needed Moses gone if we couldn't offload Norman, I'd say it's more to do with creating a spot for Drown in the side. We probably weren't in a hurry to re-sign Moses either, after last year.

Posted some of this in the Team list thread for Souths game, but my mail is that Alvaro, Mannah and Taka were all dropped due to their form. In Mannah's case, he was out-shone by Gower against the Panthers, when he should have stepped up as the leader our pack needed.

Kaufusi was sent back to Wenty to get more match fitness/game time and Salmon was given a "rest" from NRL level for a couple of weeks as there were concerns his still growing body would suffer longer term.

Drown is 3--4 weeks away from a return and Nrown is on track to be back in time for the Bronco's at BankWest.

Post June 30 when development players can be picked, expect to see Stefano and Parry both make their debuts.

Good to see that BA:
1) isn't afraid to drop 'name' players because of their form
2) is nurturing the long term health and well being of the younger guys
3) is prepared to keep giving young players a crack at NRL when allowed and when suitable.

Wow!

Harsh on Mannah, though - he has been immense in 2019 so far.

He's no leader, though, and I reckon expecting him to be one is a bit silly...

Hard to argue the Mannah decision with that explanation. Gower definitely was the best forward imo.

I am not criticising the theory but FMD why are we the only club that seems to need to "manage" young players? Others generally come into grade and keep going if they have a future......

His minutes have been down since he came back from injury against the Storm. But if he's named for Wenty then he's obviously not being rested.

The return of the Brown's cannot come quick enough for mine.

And I think a little harsh on Mannah tbh, I think his been awesome this year.

Agree dropping Taka and Alvaro though, definitely the right move.

Is there a

4. Ive signed for 2 more years, need to get it right for 2020 so lets cut the dead wood now and prepare better for next year including grooming youngsters and signing new players?

Hopefully it's too soon to be writing off 2019. We're still in the eight ffs!

of course not

You mentioned it yourself with Mannah regarding contract negotiations ending possibly for him, as maybe a reason for his dropping to Wenty

Surely if there are things happening behind the scenes (players we wont be resigning for 2020) then BA needs to groom rookies and sign new players in preparation for 2020, keeping a balancing act with trying to compete this year as well

Is BA serious with that reasoning for dropping Mannah? He should be picking the best team to win the next game, not making ridiculous “points” by dropping our second best middle this year.

For the record, NRL stats indicate the following:

Mannah
Minutes: 36 minutes
Runs: 13
Run metres: 97
Tackle busts: 1
Tackles: 17
Missed tackles: 2

Gower
Minutes: 30 minutes
Runs: 8
Run metres: 67
Tackle busts: 3
Tackles: 19
Missed tackles: 1

Now Peni...
Minutes: 32 minutes
Runs: 5
Run metres: 36
Tackle busts: 1
Tackles: 18
Missed tackles: 2

Now tell me again how Mannah has been dropped and yet Peni stays?

BA has lost the plot and whether he is doing it intentionally or not, is sabotaging our season.

I think you mean Mannah, not Gower
