He only got into the team because Keary was injured. Of course he won’t be replaced now because he’s taken his opportunity with both hands. The fact remains that at the beginning of the season he was a backup who was behind Keary and Lam. The perfect backup if you will.
Walker was always going to be first choice as soon as he was ready. Lam is stuck behind another backup in Drew Hutchison ffs. They never saw Lam as first choice. He was a placeholder for Walker:

"Brilliant teen Sam Walker has been dubbed the long-term option to partner Keary."

"Walker's signing last year in the face of serious interest from the ARU and several NRL rivals was hailed as a coup for the Roosters, with the Tricolours viewing him as a longterm halves option."

"Trent Robinson is determined not to rush him into first grade before he is ready, but confidence is growing around Walker's ability to make the jump with another pre-season under his belt."

Let’s not shift the goalposts mate. He was still as much of a backup as Jakob Arthur was this season.

Mate, they let go one of their contracted starting halves because they had Walker. He's played every game since round 4, despite Lam and Hutchison being in the squad. There was massive hype around him last year, as shown in the links. He was always going to play a lot of first grade this year. Do you really think a club like the Roosters was going to rely on Lachlan Lam as a first choice half? He can't even get a run ahead of Drew Hutchison. Arthur wasn't even in the top 30 to start the season, and whenever Moses and Drown are available, Arthur is straight out of the team. That's a backup.

They let go of Kyle Flanagan because they didn’t rate him. If Walker was always going to be first choice ahead of Lam then why didn’t he start ahead of him at the beginning of the year? Walker killed it when he came into first grade so his form made it impossible to drop him again. He was still a backup at the beginning of the season.

If they didn't rate him they wouldn't have signed him. The fact was they knew they had someone better and wanted to clear a pathway for him. Like how we were happy to rissole either of Moses or Norman to fit Drown in the side. When there's that much hype for a player before he's ever played NRL it's a foregone conclusion that he's going to make it.

He hadn't even played first grade ffs. He wasn't ready by round one, but you're mad if you think the Roosters were surprised by his form. They saw him at training every day for a year before his debut. If Lam was that great why is he behind Hutchison?

Foregone conclusion like the best SBW Karl Filiga or best ever schoolboys player in Greg Waddell? No doubt the Roosters rated Walker but he was 18 years old at the start of the reason. I’m sure they didn’t see any reason to rush him into first grade. The fact remains that Walker got his start after both Keary and Lam got injured. Things can change. Lam might have been ahead in the pecking order before but he isn’t anymore. Just like how Papali’i was signed as a bench forward but his form made it impossible not to start him.

I never heard of Filiga until he became synonymous with shit recruitment. I still don't know who Greg Waddell is. But SBW I heard of while he was still in Jersey Flegg. That's the hype I'm talking about. The same hype around Latrell Mitchell, Sam Walker and Joseph Suaali.
No doubt the Roosters rated Walker
Everyone did, before he ever signed with the Roosters. He was off contract this year and had to be fast tracked into first grade or the vultures would've snapped him up. The first step was dumping Flanagan, the next was rushing Walker straight into reserve grade. Nobody rated Lachlan Lam, and they still don't. You think the Roosters are stupid? Lam was a warm body filling a jersey until Walker was ready. Lam barely touched the ball ffs.

Start of season W.Smith was our back up half.
Lussick and Roache back up hookers.
Timing meant Smith was injured. Arthur's got a shot. Hopefully we dint have to use him the rest of year. I think he'll be a lot better next year.

Shame NSW cups stopped. This is ruining the development of juniors who already where ruined last season. Could be a shortage of talent now.
