Does the punishment fit the crime?

I just wondered, if its only a minority of players involved, say 4 or so, does it really warrant the stripping of two titles and the rest?
Yes, if it turns out that 10 or more were involved in copping kick backs then its all fair and just, boot them out for forever and a day, but if its a minority then would everyone be happy to let them receive the titles again?

Yes.

It forms the core of their teams stars.

Not only that the deception allowed players to be paid their market rate elsewhere in the clubs roster. If they had not been in a position to do so than there is a real chance they would have lost a chunk of mid tier talent or not be able to offer young guys a contract to bring them through the system.

It is so endemic in the structure this was the only punishment

Unfortunately for them, and really the entire NRL, stripping their past achievements is just. Stripping wins that haven't happened yet I can't agree with.

The punishment has done more damage then their actual cheating IMO.

No. The cheating has done all of the damage.

Without the lying and cheating, there would be no problem at all.

Lay the blames where it belongs - the administrators, agents and players involved.

Yes the Storm admin did the wrong thing and they deserve to be punished by the NRL. But the NRL's form of punishment has not only effected the Melbourne Storm club, but Rugby League and its future in Victoria.

No. The Storm did that.

The NRL just did it's job.

Well if you can think of a better punishment I'd like to hear it. If they didn't hand down such a severe punishment then all hell would break lose and it would be even worse.

Yes.

So what if they have cultivated these players, as gould suggests. What about all of the clubs that have cultivated players & had to let them go?

It's all bullsh*t.

I have spent money all my life supporting my team, going to games & finals series hoping that they will one day win the comp again. I'm 39 & it's been23 years since my team won the comp. I want to feel that excitement, I want to experience the rush that comes with winning a comp & being part of it. Yes, I'm a rugby league fan, but, first & foremost I am a Parramatta fan.

I feel sorry for the fans of the storm, but, they have enjoyed that rush & you can't take that away from them.

How is it fair to supporters of ANY club? How would you be, being a sharks supporter from when they entered the comp? These are the people who I think the commentators should be asking!

People claim to want an independent commission, but at the first sign of independence in ages we see heaps of fans calling for biased decision making.

Simply they robbed every single fan of every opposition team five years of a fair competition.

I feel for their fans but other than that f**k them. It was deliberate. They have admitted it was deliberate. Move on

everyone saying the punishment is too harsh should be very glad im not david gallop because i would have deregistered the club and expelled them from the nrl
they won the premiership not once but twice by cheating no penalty is too harsh for that
