Dolphins crash to third loss in four weeks
22nd July 7.37pm, Written by David Rohl
Celebrations of a Grand Final at Dolphin Oval have been put on hold as the Dolphins were outclassed at Kougari today. Wynnum dominated the majority of the 80 minutes in the 32 - 22 win over Redcliffe. The Seagulls shot out to a 16 - nil lead midway through the first half, looking much more lively than Redcliffe. Redcliffe looked flat for much of the half until George Wilson shot through a gap out wide and scored in the last ten before half time. A bustling run up the middle just before half time resulted in a try to Andrew Wynyard undoing much of Wynnum's good work. With conversions by Damien Richters Wynnum lead 16 - 12 at the break.
In the half time break coach Neil Wharton gave the Dolphins a spray the likes of which have not been heard since 1983. Initially this must have worked because Redcliffe hit the lead shortly after. They led the game for about 2 minutes however as Wynnum powered on to a 32 - 18 lead. A late try made it 32 - 22 but Redcliffe were barely in the game. This is very worrying with only a bye before the game of the year against Toowoomba at Dolphin Oval on August 4.
Best for the Dolphins again were Adam Mogg and Michael Roberts. Mogg was particularly elusive breaking plenty of tackles and Roberts never gave up trying.
Wynnum 32 (Dutton 2, David, Frame, Tsaousis, Bachman tries; O'Doherty 4 goals) def Redcliffe 22 (Wilson, Graham, Roberts, Wynyard tries; Richters 3 goals)
