FORMER Neighbours star Jason Donovan is set to release his first studio album for 15 years with a mixture of covers and originals in a "50s and '60s theme".
While the 40-year-old Aussie's star status dimmed years ago in his home country, in the UK he has a huge following as he continues to perform live and attract new fans through his West End theatre and radio DJ work.
His memoir Between the Lines was also a bestseller and he recently starred in a British soap, Moving Wallpaper, playing himself.
Let It Be Me, to be released in November, will be his first solo musical project since All Around The World, which reached No. 27 on the UK charts in 1993.
On his website, Donovan says the tracks will have a "50s/60s theme" and be a mixture of original works and cover versions.
"Well, I've finished the vocals and it sounds pretty good," Donovan said yesterday. "But I haven't finished the whole production side of it. I think you'll like it.
"There's a good selection of songs on there. It's sort of difficult doing a cover-based album, but there's three new songs on there."
The album, to be backed up with a tour, is expected to see covers of classic songs as well as a new track called Dreamboats and Petticoats.
